Using survey data collected from a wide variety of firms and industries based in the United States, we empirically examined the antecedents and effects of integrating the natural environment into the formal planning process. These data were analysed using structural equation modelling with the LISREL technique. Overall, our data provided strong support for the hypothesized relationships. Specifically, we found that the level of integration of environmental management concerns in the Strategic planning process was positively related to financial and environmental performance. Furthermore, we found that the greater the functional coverage and the more resources provided to environmental Issues, the greater the integration of environmental Issues in the planning process. These results suggest that concern for environmental Issues may yield competitive advantages in the marketplace as the natural resource-based perspective suggests

a memetic algorithm with extended random path encoding for a closed loop supply chain model with flexible delivery
Logistics Research, 2016Co-Authors: E Behmanesh, Jurgen PannekAbstract:Logistics network design is a major Strategic Issue in supply chain management of both forward and reverse flow, which industrial players are forced but not equipped to handle. To avoid sub-optimal solution derived by separated design, we consider an integrated forward reverse logistics network design, which is enriched by using a complete delivery graph. We formulate the cyclic seven-stage logistics network problem as a NP hard mixed integer linear programming model. To find the near optimal solution, we apply a memetic algorithm with a neighborhood search mechanism and a novel chromosome representation including two segments. The power of extended random path-based direct encoding method is shown by a comparison to commercial package in terms of both quality of solution and computational time. We show that the proposed algorithm is able to efficiently find a good solution for the flexible integrated logistics network.

Because RE technologies are not complex, require less operating and maintenance costs and are inherently more environmentally benign than conventional energy sources foster their consideration by energy policy makers as essential components of the national energy balance. the impact of product lifecycle on capacity planning of closed loop supply chains with remanufacturing
Production and Operations Management, 2009Co-Authors: Patroklos Georgiadis, Dimitrios Vlachos, George TagarasAbstract:Product recovery operations in reverse supply chains face rapidly changing demand due to the increasing number of product offerings with reduced lifecycles. Therefore, capacity planning becomes a Strategic Issue of major importance for the profitability of closed-loop supply chains. This work studies a closed-loop supply chain with remanufacturing and presents dynamic capacity planning policies developed through the methodology of System Dynamics. The key Issue of the paper is how the lifecycles and return patterns of various products affect the optimal policies regarding expansion and contraction of collection and remanufacturing capacities. The model can be used to identify effective policies, to conduct various “what-if” analyses, and to answer questions about the long-term profitability of reverse supply chains with remanufacturing. The results of numerical examples with quite different lifecycle and return patterns show how the optimal collection expansion/contraction and remanufacturing contraction policies depend on the lifecycle type and the average usage time of the product, while the remanufacturing capacity expansion policy is not significantly affected by these factors. The results also show that the collection and remanufacturing capacity policies are insensitive to the total product demand. The insensitivity of the optimal policies to total demand is a particularly appealing feature of the proposed model, given the difficulty in obtaining accurate demand forecasts.
