  • a realtime dynamic Traffic Control System based on wireless sensor network
International Conference on Parallel Processing, 2005
Co-Authors: Chen Wenjie, Chen Lifeng, Chen Zhanglong, Tu Shiliang
    Abstract:

One disadvantage of most conventional vehicle detection methods in a Traffic Control System is that they can only detect the vehicle in a fixed position. This paper proposed a new vehicle detection method using the wireless sensor network (WSN) technology. The striking feature of the proposed WSN-based method is that it can monitor the vehicles dynamically. This paper also developed a new signal Control algorithm to Control the state of the signal light in a road intersection. Simulations of the real-life intersection Traffic Control System are conducted in the paper. The simulation results show that the proposed method is effective for the Traffic Control in a real road intersection.

  • The CARS demand-responsive Traffic Control System: recent improvements and experiences
Seventh International Conference on Road Traffic Monitoring and Control 1994., 1994
    Co-Authors: R. Grau, J Barcelo
    Abstract:

CARS is a third generation Traffic Control System that follows a centralised approach and can operate either on isolated junctions, arterials, or networks. It does not rely on the traditional concepts of cycle, split and offset, but calculates acyclic settings. Coordination between junctions is achieved through an underlying simulation model that deals with packets of vehicles moving according to an ad-hoc packet-following model, and stopping in horizontal queues. Tests by the AIMSUN microscopic simulation have showed a sustained improvement over optimal fixed-Control settings on a wide range of Traffic conditions.

  • CARS, A DEMAND-RESPONSIVE Traffic Control System
Applications of Advanced Technologies in Transportation Engineering, 1991
    Co-Authors: J Barcelo
    Abstract:

This paper presents a demand responsive Traffic Control System for networks based on improvements from a combination of OPAC and ACTS approaches. The System has shown clear advantages over a fixed-time Control, tested with the AIMSUN microscopic simulator. A field test is expected in October 1991.
