  • the relAtionship between big five personAlity trAits negAtive Affectivity Type A behAvior And work fAmily conflict
    Journal of Vocational Behavior, 2003
    Co-Authors: Carly S Bruck, Tammy D Allen
    Abstract:

The relAtionships between negAtive Affectivity, Type A, And the Big Five personAlity vAriAbles with both the form And direction of work–fAmily conflict (WFC) were exAmined. The results demonstrAted thAt different Aspects of WFC relAted to different personAlity indicAtors. NegAtive Affectivity wAs the dispositionAl vAriAble studied thAt wAs most consistently relAted to the vArious Types of conflict. AdditionAlly, AgreeAbleness relAted to time-bAsed conflict And conscientiousness relAted to fAmily interfering with work conflict. The results provide further support for the contention thAt dispositions relAte to interActions between work And fAmily.

  • Type A And Type behAviors And fActors relAted to job sAtisfAction Among mAle white collAr workers
Environmental Health and Preventive Medicine, 1998
Co-Authors: Akihito Hagihara, Kimio Tarumi, Kanehisa Morimoto
    Abstract:

Numerous studies hAve exAmined the heAlth effects of Type A behAvior And job sAtisfAction/dissAtisfAction, but we know very little About the relAtionship between Aspects of the work environment relAted to job sAtisfAction And the Type A behAvior pAttern. In the present study, we AnAlyzed dAtA concerning work Stressors, privAte Aspects of life, And job sAtisfAction Among mAle white-collAr workers (n=657) in A lArge steel compAny, And identified the respective Aspects of the work environment relAted to job sAtisfAction Among groups divided by Type A/B behAvior pAtterns. We found thAt the nAture of predictors for job sAtisfAction vAried with the behAvior Type. “Being not busy At work” (p<0.001) And “working more thAn 10 hours per dAy” (p<0.05) were significAnt predictors of job sAtisfAction Among the Type A workers while “working less thAn 10 hours per dAy” (p<0.05) And “cAn leArn new things At work” (p<0.01) were significAnt predictors of job sAtisfAction Among the Type workers. “Work performAnce is evAluAted” wAs A significAnt predictor of job sAtisfAction Among All three behAvior Types (A, B, And A/B). Our results cAn provide informAtion useful for the creAtion of progrAms to lower the level of job dissAtisfAction And mentAl stress depending upon the behAvior Type of employees.

  • role stress the Type A behAvior pAttern And externAl Auditor job sAtisfAction And performAnce
    Behavioral Research in Accounting, 2001
    Co-Authors: Richard Fisher
    Abstract:

This study exAmines the relAtionship between elements of role stress And two importAnt externAl Auditor job outcome vAriAbles: job sAtisfAction And performAnce. The study extends prior reseArch by exAmining the moderAting influence of the Type A behAvior pAttern on these relAtionships. The need to re‐exAmine the linkAges between the elements of role stress And both job sAtisfAction And job performAnce using theoreticAlly bAsed moderAtors, such As the Type A behAvior pAttern, hAs been highlighted in the role‐stress literAture. AnAlysis of survey dAtA confirmed thAt both role conflict And role Ambiguity Are significAntly negAtively AssociAted with Auditor job performAnce And job sAtisfAction. However, the expected moderAting role of the Type A behAvior pAttern on the relAtionships between the components of role stress And job sAtisfAction And Auditor job performAnce wAs not found. Interestingly, however, A direct positive relAtionship between the Type A behAvior pAttern And both job outcome vAriAbles wAs Ap...

  • biobehAviorAl bAsis of coronAry prone behAvior in middle Age men pArt ii serum cholesterol the Type A behAvior pAttern And hostility As interActive modulAtors of physiologicAl reActivity
    Psychosomatic Medicine, 1991
    Co-Authors: Edward C Suarez, Redford B Williams, Cynthia M Kuhn, E H Zimmerman, S M Schanberg
    Abstract:

: Prior reseArch suggests thAt the Type A behAvior pAttern, Cook And Medley Hostility (Ho) scores, And TotAl Serum Cholesterol (TSC) Are positively AssociAted with physiologicAl chAnges to behAviorAl stressors. The objective of the present study wAs to determine whether TSC interActs with the Type A behAvior pAttern And hostility to Affect cArdiovAsculAr And neurohormonAl responses to A mentAl Arithmetic tAsk (MATH). For Type A individuAls, elevAted TSC wAs AssociAted with lArger cAtecholAmine And cortisol responses to MATH. In contrAst, for Type B subjects, cholesterol wAs negAtively AssociAted with neurohormonAl responses. The interAction between Ho score And TSC predicted A similAr pAttern of responses whereby, in high hostile men only, TSC wAs positively AssociAted with MATH-induced chAnges in cAtecholAmines And heArt rAte. While the mechAnisms responsible for the differences in the lipid-reActivity AssociAtion As A function of coronAry-prone behAvior meAsures remAin to be elucidAted, this differentiAl AssociAtion mAy plAy A role in the heightened risk of coronAry diseAse Among hostile Type A men.
