  • benefits of using a digital Video Disk for providing information about abortion to women requesting termination of pregnancy
    Contraception, 2010
Co-Authors: Rebecca Powelljackson, Anna Glasier, Sharon Cameron
    Abstract:

Abstract Background A patient information digital Video Disk (DVD) on abortion was produced for use in a hospital abortion service (Scotland) for women requesting termination of pregnancy. Study Design Self-administered anonymous surveys of patients and clinic staff (doctors and nurses), before and after introduction of the DVD, was conducted. Results Questionnaires were completed by 106 patients before introduction of the DVD and by 100 patients and 20 staff following its introduction. Patient satisfaction (score out of 10) with information received was significantly higher following introduction of DVD (mean, 9.2 vs. 8.3, with and without DVD, respectively; p n =35), and staff felt women were better informed (56.6% responses, n =13) and that it liberated time to discuss specific concerns and contraception (26.1%, n =6). Conclusions The DVD provided high-quality information for women requesting abortion and resulted in staff having more time to discuss patient concerns and contraception.

  • effectiveness of multimedia digital Video Disk on knowledge gain of improved dairy farming practices
Indian journal of dairy science, 2014
Co-Authors: B S Meena, Ranjith Kumar, Amit Singh
    Abstract:

Livestock sector plays a multi-faceted role in socio-economic development of rural households. Empirical evidences indicate that livestock is an important component of the agriculture system, providing an additional source of income, nutritional cover and act a liquid asset to poor families. With the advancement of agriculture and livestock sector information and knowledge had increasingly become an important factor of production for effective decision-making. Information communication Technology (ICT) services have wide potential to uplift the economy of livestock holders and among various communication media available, the emerging cos effective educational DVD appears to hold great promise. Keeping these in view the present study was planned to identify perceived need of IDFPs and to assess the effectiveness of developed DVD module in IDFPs. The present study was conducted in six randomly selected villages of Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Ninety dairy farmers were investigated for identifying perceived need and to assess the effectiveness of DVD based information module. The result indicated that majority of respondent had medium level of perceived needs on breeding, feeding, health care and management. The perceived need index of each practices state that respondents were having highest need in health care i.e.61.78 per cent followed by animal breeding (57.65%) practices. The overall Knowledge gain through educational DVD on IDFPs was 14.21 per cent and maximum gain was observed in health care (16.62%). Thus the developed educational DVD was effective in terms of knowledge gain. Majority of the respondents were ‘satisfied ‘ regarding usefulness in enhancing knowledge (65.00%), suitability of the information to the field situation (72.22%), improves self-confidence (77.78%), arousal of curiosity and interest (62.22%), relevancy and appropriateness of the content (78.89%). • Analytical prospect of compact Disk technology in immunosensing.
    Analytical and bioanalytical chemistry, 2008
Co-Authors: Sergi Morais, Rosa Puchades, Javier Carrascosa, Jesús Tamarit-lópez, Ángel Maquieira
    Abstract:

A sensitive and versatile methodology involving recordable compact Disks as molecular screening surfaces and a standard optical CD/DVD drive as detector, is reported. Quantitative immunoanalysis, in microarray format, of a cancer marker (alpha-fetoprotein, AFP) and a selective herbicide (atrazine) on four types of audio-Video disc was conducted. Enzyme or gold nanoparticle-labeled antibodies were used as tracers, forming a precipitate on the sensing Disk surface. The principle of Disk reading is based on capture of analog signals with the Disk drive that were proportional to the darkness of the immunoreaction product. Detection limits for AFP (8.0 μg L−1) and for atrazine (0.04 μg L−1) were under the threshold needed to detect nonseminomatous testicular cancer, and below the maximum E.U. residue limit for drinking water, respectively. The described methodology improves the previous developments using CDs and highlights the enormous potential of immunoassay methods using standard audio–Video Disk surfaces in combination with the CD/DVD drive for clinical analysis, drug discovery, or high-throughput multiresidue screening applications.
