extravascular lung water b type natriuretic peptide and blood Volume Contraction enable diagnosis of weaning induced pulmonary edema
Critical Care Medicine, 2014Co-Authors: Martin Dres, Jeanlouis Teboul, Nadia Anguel, Laurent Guerin, Christian Richard, Xavier MonnetAbstract:Objective:We tested whether the changes in extravascular lung water indexed for ideal body weight could detect weaning-induced pulmonary edema. We also studied the diagnostic value of blood Volume Contraction indices and B-type natriuretic peptide variations.Design:Prospective study.Setting:ICU.Pati

extravascular lung water b type natriuretic peptide and blood Volume Contraction for diagnosing weaning induced pulmonary edema
Critical Care, 2013Co-Authors: Martin Dres, Jeanlouis Teboul, Nadia Anguel, Christian Richard, Xavier MonnetAbstract:We compared three different methods for diagnosing pulmonary edema induced by weaning from mechanical ventilation: the increase in extravascular lung water index (EVLWI), the increase in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and blood Volume Contraction, reflected by increases in plasma protein and in hemoglobin concentrations, all observed during a spontaneous breathing trial (SBT).

effect of Volume Contraction on incipient fluidization of binary solid mixtures
Particuology, 2011Co-Authors: Mohammad AsifAbstract:Abstract Towards the development of a predictive model for computing the minimum fluidization velocity, the Volume-Contraction phenomenon arising from the mixing of unequal solid species is accounted for in the prediction of the bed void fraction of binary-solid mixtures at the incipient fluidization conditions. Comparison with experimental data obtained from the literature clearly shows that significantly improved predictions are obtained except for cases where the stratification pattern whether arising from the slow defluidization or the difference in the densities of the two species affects the mixing of the constituent species.

Volume Contraction behaviour of binary solid liquid fluidized beds
Powder Technology, 2004Co-Authors: Mohammad AsifAbstract:Contrary to the widely held notion that the total bed height of a binary solid fluidized bed will be the sum of heights of the two individual mono-component beds fluidized at the same velocity, significant negative deviations have been observed in our experimental investigation. The negative deviations, signifying a Contraction of the total Volume of the binary solid fluidized bed, could sometimes be as high as 25% of the actual Volume. The Volume Contraction has been found to depend mainly upon the degree of solids mixing prevailing in the bed irrespective of whether it is fully fluidized or not. The composition of the binary solid fluidized was another important factor that influenced the Contraction behaviour of the bed besides the size ratio of the two constituent solid species of the binary present in the bed.

expansion behavior of a binary solid liquid fluidized bed with large particle size difference
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2001Co-Authors: Mohammad AsifAbstract:The overall expansion of two dissimilar solid particle species with over a tenfold difference in their size and substantial density difference is investigated for different compositions of the fluidized bed. Contrary to the widely held notion that the total bed height would be the sum of the heights of the two segregated mono-component beds, the actual bed heights were, in fact, found to be lower. This Volume Contraction is found to strongly depend upon the mixing behavior prevailing in the binary-solid fluidized bed. At the complete mixing of the two solid species, the bed-Contraction versus liquid velocity profile shows a global maximum. As a result, the overall bulk density profiles are similarly affected. Moreover, it is found that correlations meant for predicting the porosity of the packing of binary particle mixtures can be satisfactorily extended to binary-solid fluidized beds where solid species differ significantly in size.
