Warthins Tumor cyto histological spectrum with emphasis on diagnostic difficulties
Diagnostic Cytopathology, 2018Co-Authors: Neelam Sood, Parismrita BorahAbstract:Warthins tumour is characterized by the presence of epithelial proliferation in a lymphoid stroma. It has been categorized as Sieferts types: 1-4, depending on the proportions of the 2 components. Although FNA is fairly accurate in establishing the diagnosis, the cytologic diagnosis of this Tumor has potential sources of error. This retrospective study was conducted in the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine, of a tertiary care hospital. Cytology and surgical pathology records of past 15 years were screened. A total of 1200 FNAC cases of salivary gland lesions in the past 15 years were retrieved. 36 cases with presumptive cytodiagnosis of WT were identified and histopathological correlation was done. Histopathological correlation could be done in 24 cases. 19 out of 24 cases, were confirmed as WT. The 5 cases with discordance were analyzed for potential diagnostic pitfalls. The most common discordance was in the category of papillary proliferation with minimal lymphoid infiltrate. One case proved as oncocytoma and the other was papillary oncocyticcystadenoma. The other major pitfalls, were the interpretation of atypical squamoid cells. Their presence in a lymphoid background needs consideration of cytologic diagnosis of WT, mucoepidermoid carcinoma and metastatic squamous carcinoma. FNA showed an accuracy of 79% for WT. Cytological misinterpretation can thus occur in presence of morphology other than classical Siefert type1. An awareness of these potential pitfalls should push the need for avoiding single cytologic interpretation.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising in Warthins Tumor of the upper lip: a case report and review
Editorial Department of Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases, 2019Co-Authors: Zhang Ning, Hu Yue, Qiao Chunyan, Ji Xin, Han Ruyu, Sun Lanfang, Li Minghe, Han ChengminAbstract:Objective To provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising in Warthins Tumor of the lip by investigating the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the disease. Methods A case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma arising in Warthins Tumor of lip was reported, including the clinical manifestation, treat⁃ ment, pathological characteristics and prognosis. The related literature was also reviewed and analyzed. Results A painless mass on the left lip lasting more than one month was found. Resection of the left lip was performed. Pathologi⁃ cal examination showed that the Tumor was a hybridoma composed of mucoepidermoid carcinoma and Warthins Tumor. There was no recurrence or distant metastasis after 34 months. To date, this type of disease has been rarely reported. Af⁃ ter thorough resection, the prognosis and survival rate are promising in most cases, with no recurrence or metastasis. Conclusion Mucoepidermoid carcinoma in Warthins Tumor of the lip is rare. Clinical manifestations, imaging features and histological examination are useful when diagnosing the disease. Thorough resection will reduce the risk of disease recurrence

Morbidity analysis of benign salivary gland Tumor
Institutional Repository of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, 2016Co-Authors: Civinskas PauliusAbstract:Author: Paulius Civinskas Goal: Establish the morbidity of benign salivary gland Tumor. Tasks: 1. Determine the distribution of morbidity benign salivary gland Tumor based on the diagnosis. 2. Establish the morbidity benign salivary gland Tumor regarding different sexes. 3. Detect the method which was practiced the most in order to diagnose the patients. 4. Determine the average age of patients, the size of the pathological origin and its dependence from the ill patient’s age. Methods: Make a retrospective analysis of patients (from January 2011 until December 2015) history who were treated in Kaunas hospital of Lithuanian university of health sciencies at the face and jaw surgery department (LUHS KC FJSD). Aspects that are a part of this research: patient age, housing location, what period of time did these the symptoms were active, reccurece, complications, tests that were made up to the diagnosis and side where the disease appeared (left or right) Participants: Patients who were diagnosed with pleomorphic adenoma (PA), Warthin Tumor, basal cell adenoma, sebaceous adenoma. Results: Ultrasound based diagnostics was the most common, it was used in 58,5 pct. of the cases. Core-needle biopsy is the most precise method for determining the pre-operational diagnosis. The sensitivity and precision of this this test is 92 − 94 pct. and 99 − 100 pct. 72,2 pct. were diagnosed with PA. 22,3 pct. were diagnosed with Warthins tumour, other types 7,5 pct. of patients. PA is more common amongst men (45,5 pct.), less common amongst women (2 pct.). Average age of patients with PA is 49.4 years, Warthins Tumor − 65,6 years, and other kinds − 69,6. Conclusion: 1. Benign salivary gland Tumor illness rate is the same between men and women. In addition to, the age between sexes did not differ. 2. According to the LUHS KC FJSD data PA is more common amongst women, Warthins Tumor is more common amongst men. 3. The most common method of diagnosis at LUHS KC FJSD is ultrasound diagnostics. 4. The average age of people diagnosed with PA was 49.4, Warthins Tumor − 65,6, other types − 69,6. The biggest average sizes where between the patients diagnosed with Warthins Tumor – 43.3 mm, PA − 28.7, and other kinds – 26.9 mm. Men have bigger Tumors than women, the older the patient is the bigger Tumor can be expected, usually the Tumor grows 0.33 mm a year
