Web Services have a broad range of Service distributions while mobile phones have large and expanding user base. To address the confluence of Web Services and pervasive mobile devices and communication environments, a basic mobile Web Service Provider was developed for smart phones. The performance of this Mobile Host was also analyzed in detail. Further analysis of the Mobile Host to provide proper QoS and to check Mobile Host?s feasibility in the P2P networks, identified the necessity of a mediation framework. The paper describes the research conducted with the Mobile Host, identifies the tasks of the mediation framework and then discusses the feasible realization details of such a mobile Web Services mediation framework.

The research of mobile Web Services has been mainly concentrated on Web Service client systems. Mobile Web Service provisioning was ignored, since a realization seemed beyond the resource capabilities of present mobile terminals. Complementing this work, here we discuss one such prototype of a mobile Web Service Provider, developed and evaluated in cooperation with a major mobile phone vendor. We also present a detailed performance analysis of this Mobile Host, proving its feasibility.

The mechanism of Web Services technology naturally provides a platform for deploying mobile agent technology. Therefore, the integration of the mobile agent technology and Web Service technology has been actively investigated in recent years. On the other hand, the security issues of the integration system have not drawn much attention. In this paper, we present a new security architecture for the integration of mobile agent and the Web Services technology. This architecture provides a new authentication scheme for Web Service Provider to verify the mobile agent owner's identity by employing an identity-based signature protocol without using the username/password pair, which is infeasible for mobile agent. We also propose a new Web Services and mobile agent system confidentiality protocol, which provides an alternative method to current security mechanisms without using certification authorities (CA) based public key infrastructure. With this scheme, it can simplify the key management and reduce the computation load particularly for group-oriented Web Services. In addition, this scheme also inherently has the non-repudiation property.

Web Service Provider selection under qos and security constraints
Joint Conferences on Pervasive Computing, 2009Co-Authors: Li ZhouAbstract:In pervasive computing environment, Web Services are widely adopted in dynamic business processes. When selecting Service Providers, quality of Service (QoS) and security constraints should be considered simultaneously. However, most current research works about Provider selection either focus on quality of Service, or just take into account security constraints. In this paper, we propose an evaluation model for business process, which considers the above two factors at the same time. Two key criterias are introduced to measure the overall cost and benefit of QoS parameters respectively. Typical security constraints, such as separation of duty (SoD) constraints and binding of duty (BoD) constraints, are also considered. We define the Service Provider selection problem and present a linear programming based solution. Some experiments are performed to evaluate our model and the results show that our approach is effective in solving the problem.
