  • False suffocation Alarms, spontaneous panics, and related conditions. An integrative hypothesis.
    Archives of General Psychiatry, 1993
    Co-Authors: Donald F Klein
    Abstract:

    • A carbon dioxide hypersensitivity theory of panic has been posited. We hypothesize more broadly that a physiologic misinterpretation by a suffocation Monitor misfires an evolved suffocation Alarm system. This produces sudden respiratory distress followed swiftly by a brief hyperventilation, panic, and the urge to flee. Carbon dioxide hypersensitivity is seen as due to the deranged suffocation Alarm Monitor. If other indicators of potential suffocation provoke panic, this theoretical extension is supported. We broadly pursue this theory by examining Ondine's curse as the physiologic and pharmacologic converse of panic disorder, splitting panic in terms of symptomatology and challenge studies, reevaluating the role of hyperventilation, and reinterpreting the contagiousness of sighing and yawning, as well as mass hysteria. Further, the phenomena of panic during relaxation and sleep, late luteal phase dysphoric disorder, pregnancy, childbirth, pulmonary disease, separation anxiety, and treatment are used to test and illuminate the suffocation false Alarm theory.

  • remote Alarm Monitor system based on gsm and arm
    Procedia Engineering, 2011
Co-Authors: Zhijie Tang, Wang Shuai, Luo Jun
    Abstract:

Abstract This paper presents a remote Monitor and control Alarm system based on GSM and ARM. This system uses ARM-based microcontroller LPC2368 as the MCU, a smoke sensor MQ-2 to detect the harmful gas, the temperature sensor DS18B20 to Monitor the temperature, the humidity sensor HS1101 to check the humidity in the room. Also we use gate magnetic switch, we fix them on the door and windows to Monitor the invasion. If the householder comes back, he can enter the password through the keyboard. The microcontroller then disables the Alarm from the gate magnetic switch. Once the abnormal occurs, the MCU gets the Alarm signal immediately, and the system controls the camera to take photos, and send multimedia messages (MMS) to inform the Alarm information.

  • intrusion Alarmed fiber optic communication link using a planar waveguide bimodal launcher
    Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2002
    Co-Authors: C K Asawa
    Abstract:

This paper summarizes the results of our study of a point-to-point, intrusion-Alarmed, graded-index, multimode optical fiber communication system. In this intrusion-Alarmed system, data light is transmitted in the lowest order modes of a graded-index multimode fiber and intrusion Alarm Monitor light is simultaneously transmitted in high-order modes. An attempted intrusion to extract data light by bending the fiber results in attenuation of the Monitor light in high-order modes, thereby sounding an Alarm at the receiver. However, the data light in the fundamental mode, or in the lowest order modes, propagates along or near the fiber axis where the refractive index is highest and is exceptionally difficult to extract from the fiber. Even for severe bending of the fiber, light in the lowest order modes remains trapped in a set of lowest order modes. Additional benefits of data light transmitted in the lowest order modes are capabilities for wider bandwidths and lower modal noise. The performance of four fabricated planar waveguide bimodal launchers for simultaneously launching data light into the fundamental mode, or into the lowest order modes, and Monitor fight into high-order modes of graded-index multimode fiber is described. The configuration, construction, and performance of a laboratory prototype Alarmed system are described.
