    Abstract:

    In this paper we propose a frequency-domain technique to identify and extract the Ambience information in stereo audio signals. The method is based on the computation of an inter-channel coherence index and a non-linear mapping function that allow us to determine time-frequency regions that consist mostly of Ambience components in the two-channel signal. Ambience signals are then synthesized and used to feed the surround channels of a multichannel playback system. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique in extracting Ambience information and up-mix tests on real audio reveal the various advantages and disadvantages of the system compared to previous up-mix strategies.

    Stereo audio signal is often modeled as a mixture of instantaneously mixed primary components and uncorrelated Ambience components. This paper focuses on the estimation of the primary-to-Ambience energy ratio, PAR. This measure is useful for signal decomposition in stereo and multichannel audio coding, format conversion, and spatial audio enhancement. The conventional approaches for the estimation of the ratio are based on the ratio of eigenvalues which requires equal energies of the Ambience signals. This often leads to an inaccurate estimate of PAR. An alternative measure is proposed which reduces those estimation errors but requires a priori information about the primary component signal. The performance of the method is demonstrated with synthetic signals and a large collection of stereo audio data.

Through various interactive activities and game scenarios, particular subjects such as history and mathematics can be taught through developed VR games that can help students to overcome inhibitions related to learning, become more active learners and stimulate creativity in art education.

    Abstract By using two sets of Raman systems with excitation lines of 514.5 and 632.8 nm, the influence of annealing Ambience was investigated on the formation of cobalt silicides. The results show that a more uniform, compact and thermal stable cobalt silicide film can be formed in the hydrogen annealing Ambience than that in the Ar annealing Ambience. Two characteristic bands located at 305 and 325 cm −1 , which may be assigned to the CoSi and CoSi2, respectively, were found during the phase transition processes. The strong band which appeared at 325 cm −1 that can only be detected with the excitation line of 632.8 nm was found to be due to the resonant Raman effect.
