  • the interaction between end users and systems analysts the effects of end user analyst conflict on perceived system success
    1999
    Co-Authors: Nadine Wilson
    Abstract:

This study investigates the interaction between end-users and systems analysts during end-user Application development. It further investigates the effect that this interaction has on the success of the system development effort. The interaction between end-users and systems analysts is studied through some of its components namely, participation, involvement, influence, conflict and conflict resolution. Data was collected from end-users and systems analysts who had recently participated in the development of an end-user Application. Factor analysis was then used to identify the underlying Factors that contribute to system success in an end-user computing environment. The underlying Factors were then examined using regression analysis. In addition to providing an overall understanding of some of the issues that are considered important to system success within an end-user computing environment, the analysis presented in this research indicates trends that should be examined for further research.

  • shallow water table effects on water sediment and pesticide transport in vegetative filter strips part 2 model coupling Application Factor importance and uncertainty
Hydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2017
    Co-Authors: C. Lauvernet, Rafael Munozcarpena
    Abstract:

Abstract. Vegetative filter strips are often used for protecting surface waters from pollution transferred by surface runoff in agricultural watersheds. In Europe, they are often prescribed along the stream banks, where a seasonal shallow water table (WT) could decrease the buffer zone efficiency. In spite of this potentially important effect, there are no systematic experimental or theoretical studies on the effect of this soil boundary condition on the VFS efficiency. In the companion paper (Munoz-Carpena et al., 2018), we developed a physically based numerical algorithm (SWINGO) that allows the representation of soil infiltration with a shallow water table. Here we present the dynamic coupling of SWINGO with VFSMOD, an overland flow and transport mathematical model to study the WT influence on VFS efficiency in terms of reductions of overland flow, sediment, and pesticide transport. This new version of VFSMOD was applied to two contrasted benchmark field studies in France (sandy-loam soil in a Mediterranean semicontinental climate, and silty clay in a temperate oceanic climate), where limited testing of the model with field data on one of the sites showed promising results. The Application showed that for the conditions of the studies, VFS efficiency decreases markedly when the water table is 0 to 1.5 m from the surface. In order to evaluate the relative importance of WT among other input Factors controlling VFS efficiency, global sensitivity and uncertainty analysis (GSA) was applied on the benchmark studies. The most important Factors found for VFS overland flow reduction were saturated hydraulic conductivity and WT depth, added to sediment characteristics and VFS dimensions for sediment and pesticide reductions. The relative importance of WT varied as a function of soil type (most important at the silty-clay soil) and hydraulic loading (rainfall + incoming runoff) at each site. The presence of WT introduced more complex responses dominated by strong interactions in the modeled system response, reducing the typical predominance of saturated hydraulic conductivity on infiltration under deep water table conditions. This study demonstrates that when present, the WT should be considered as a key hydrologic Factor in buffer design and evaluation as a water quality mitigation practice.

  • Evaluación en casa malla del efecto de cuatro productos biológicos para el combate de jobotos (Phyllophaga sp)
'Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica', 2020
    Co-Authors: Acuña-segura Ricardo, Brenes-madriz Jaime
    Abstract:

The experiment was developed at home mesh and the effect and dose of four biological products and one chemical used in the control of larvae of jobotos (Phyllophaga sp.) was evaluated. The experiment was carried out in Guadalupe de Cartago, located at the following geographic coordinates: Latitude: 9.861884 and Longitude: -83.939692, at 1400 amsl. The type of research was quantitative with a design of the complete block experiment at random, with the use of two doses and five treatments with three repetitions and each repetition with ten experimental units. The biological products used were: Mycotrol® 11 EW (Beauveria bassiana, strain GHA), Botani Gard® 50 WP (Beauveria bassiana, strain GHA), Agro Gold® (nine strains of Bacillus spp), B-Green® (entomonematode, Heterorhabditis bacteriophora) and a commercial chemical recommended for control of jobotos. For the biological control of Phyllophaga sp., It was determined that Mycotrol® 11EW, was the product for which a dose of 2.25cc / liter of water provided the best results. For the other two products that had an effect on the combat of Phyllophaga sp., Agro Gold® and B-Green®, it was determined that the dose used in both cases was not significant, this is confirmed by the p values of 0.113 and 0.807, respectively. What did have significance was to make two Applications of a week between them with these two products. With the remaining products, T2 and T5, there was no statistical significance in their result, this is confirmed by the p value for T2, which for the dose Factor was 0.573 and with the Application Factor was 0.094. For T5 the value of p with the dose Factor was 0.260 and for the Application Factor it was 0.277.El experimento se desarrolló en casa malla y se evaluó el efecto y la dosis de cuatro productos biológicos y uno químico utilizados en el control de larvas  de jobotos (Phyllophaga sp.).
