    Abstract:

Yu, Z. and Liu, Q., 2019. Three-dimensional design of Architectural Appearance in coastal areas based on digital media technology. In: Guido-Aldana, P.A. and Mulahasan, S. (eds.), Advances in Water Resources and Exploration. Journal of Coastal Research, Special Issue No. 93, pp. 329–334. Coconut Creek (Florida), ISSN 0749-0208.At present, the existing three-dimensional modeling methods of Architectural Appearance have some problems, such as slow modeling speed. Therefore, a three-dimensional modeling method of Architectural Appearance in coastal areas based on digital media technology is proposed. Firstly, the digital map information in coastal areas is analyzed by data media technology in an all-round way. The gray value of the pixels and the gray value of the adjacent pixels are compared by the method of terrain classification, and the type and the object of terrain are judged. Then the two-dimensional basic data representing the geometry of the bottom surface of the object are obtained by using the terrain contour extraction algorithm and the key boundary point extraction algorithm. Finally, the height generation algorithm of the object is designed and implemented by adding two attributes of type and level to the coastal building. Each object is randomly generated a height attribute, which is processed by using the encapsulated digital media technology. 3-D scene editing and roaming are carried out by using 3dsmax class modeling software and skyline class software, so as to realize 3-D modeling of Architectural Appearance in coastal areas based on digital media technology. The experimental results show that the proposed method is easy to operate, fast to model, and has higher accuracy than previous algorithms.

  • Analysis of Air Permeability of Insulated Masonry Walls
    Energies, 2020
Co-Authors: Valdemaras Geležiūnas, Valdas Paukštys, Karolis Banionis, Raimondas Bliūdžius, Jurga Kumžienė
    Abstract:

Recently, the construction of external ventilated walls has become popular for public and office buildings. These blocks are used without internal rendering because of their good interior surface, stable dimensions and various filling of masonry joints, which provide an attractive Architectural Appearance. However, problems with the airtightness of such walls often occur. Currently, there are no standard methods to predict the airtightness of such wall. In practice, samples of particular walls are produced, and their air permeability is measured at laboratories. For the broader use of the results of laboratory air permeability measurements, a methodology has been developed to predict the air permeability of block masonry walls using experimentally determined air flow resistances of the individual layers. The masonry from various blocks were used for the research; mineral wool boards of various air permeability were used for thermal insulation and the wind protection layer. After measuring the air resistance of the samples, the air flow resistances of walls of different construction were calculated. This study compared the calculated and measured air permeability values of different wall masonry samples and evaluated the suitability of created calculation method for prediction of the airtightness of insulated block masonry wall.

  • method for assessment of energy retrofit measures in milieu valuable buildings
    Energy Procedia, 2015
    Co-Authors: Endrik Arumagi, Maris Mandel
    Abstract:

Abstract Proposed method concentrates on the junctions of structures that usually have strongest influence on visual character of the building. To gain energy savings, a major change of the influence occurs when external thermal insulation is considered without any changes in other parts of the building. Whole building renovation is preferred because all the different parts of the building can be taken into account and the energy savings are larger and overall influence on the Architectural Appearance is smaller. Energy performance of the historic wooden buildings can be improved significantly without negative influence on the Architectural Appearance and destroying the milieu value of the district.

  • analysis of energy economic renovation for historic wooden apartment buildings in cold climates
    Applied Energy, 2014
    Co-Authors: Endrik Arumagi
    Abstract:

Buildings represent the largest sector of primary energy consumption and play a major role in saving energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our analysis of energy consumption and potential energy savings is based on field measurements, computer simulations and economic calculations. The average primary energy consumption (PE) of wooden apartment buildings was 331 kW h/(m2 a) 83% higher than the limit 180 kW h/(m2 a) set in national regulations for apartment buildings subject to major renovation. The studied buildings represent a high potential for energy savings. The renovation packages were compiled using different insulation measures, HVAC solutions and energy sources to achieve a 20–65% reduction of primary energy. For historic buildings, the renovation solutions that concentrate on the building envelope can be problematic due to the need to preserve cultural and Architectural values. Our calculation results indicate that the cost optimal PE level is around 250 kW h/(m2 a) and the point at which renovation packages recover expenses is around a PE level of 170 kW h/(m2 a). In terms of the Architectural Appearance the point at which renovation packages recover expenses is around a PE level of 210 kW h/(m2 a). We propose to set a different PE limit for historic wooden apartment buildings with an Architectural Appearance worth preserving.

  • lung parenchyma and type ii cell morphometrics effect of surfactant treatment on preterm ventilated lamb lungs
    Journal of Applied Physiology, 1994
    Co-Authors: Kent E Pinkerton, J Lewis, E D Rider, Janice L Peake, Waynea Chen, Amy K Madl, R H Luu, M Ikegami, A H Jobe
    Abstract:

The effect of exogenous surfactant treatment on lung and type II cell structure of ventilated lambs of 137-138 days gestational age was studied. Thirty-four lambs were delivered and randomized to control or 100 mg/kg of natural sheep surfactant treatment groups. Lungs from one group of lambs not treated with surfactant were fixed before ventilation, and the other animals were ventilated to maintain normal blood gas values for 3, 24, or 48 h. Morphometric assessment of the inflation-fixed lung parenchyma of ventilated lungs was compared with the Architectural Appearance of alveoli and alveolar ducts in the unventilated lungs. Mechanical ventilation resulted in distension of alveolar ducts accompanied by the shallowing and loss of well-defined alveoli and areas of atelectasis at 3 h. These abnormalities increased in severity after 24 and 48 h of ventilation. Surfactant treatment before ventilation significantly reduced the extent and degree of dilatation and concomitant atelectasis. The fraction of normal parenchyma was 38 +/- 7% in untreated lambs vs. 64 +/- 6% in treated lambs after 24 h of ventilation. After 48 h of ventilation, significant differences between control (39 +/- 6%) and surfactant-treated (55 +/- 6%) lambs were still evident. Alveolar type II cells contained approximately 15% lamellar bodies by volume. Neither surfactant treatment nor time of ventilation altered the volume density of lamellar bodies or other organelles, except for a decrease in glycogen from 8% in nonventilated lungs to 2.5% in lungs ventilated for 24 h. These findings indicate that a surfactant treatment at birth results in the maintenance of more normal parenchyma with less atelectasis during prolonged ventilation of the immature lung.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
