Flow regime analysis of fluid in permeable Asphalt Mixture

Accordingly, as the flow regime of fluid in permeable Asphalt Mixture is clarified, the permeability can be delved into. This study aimed to explore the flow regime of fluid in permeable Asphalt Mixture. Five types of permeable Asphalt Mixtures were synthesized. By developing a multidirectional water-filled void content test apparatus and computed tomography, the differences in void content and void diameter in vertical and horizontal directions of Asphalt Mixture were analyzed. Subsequently, the permeability test of permeable Asphalt Mixture was performed using self-developed multidirectional permeability test apparatus. The results suggest that Darcy permeability changes to non-Darcy permeability in the process of fluid flow in the Asphalt Mixture. On that basis, the transition of flow regime in permeable Asphalt Mixture was analyzed. The results suggest that the variation of flow regime is consistent with the variation of fluid from Darcy to non-Darcy permeability. The flow regime is affected by the anisotropy, gradation type of Asphalt Mixture and flow space. The permeability of permeable Asphalt Mixture is associated with the transition point of fluid flow regime. The higher the permeability, the higher the critical Reynolds number will be.

Fatigue performance of warm recycled Asphalt Mixture
Journal of Highway and Transportation Research and Development (English Edition), 2013Co-Authors: Li Ying Yang, Yiqiu Tan, Yuming Dong, Li EnguangAbstract:AbstractThe mix of warm and hot recycled Asphalt Mixtures were determined after reclaimed Asphalt Mixture (RAP) analysis and mix design. With similar aggregate gradation, the RAP content in warm recycled Asphalt Mixture increased to 45%, guaranteeing good performance of the warm recycled Mixture. Thus, the 30% RAP restriction in Asphalt Mixture was surpassed. The fatigue performance of the warm recycled Asphalt Mixture, its hot counterpart, and hot mix Asphalt (HMA) was tested using the four-point bending test. The testing result indicates that, although the fatigue performance of warm recycled Asphalt Mixture is not as good as that of HMA, it is superior to that of the hot recycled Asphalt Mixture, especially at high strain levels. The fatigue life of warm recycled Asphalt Mixture is 1.5 times that of the hot recycled Asphalt Mixture.

Evaluation on Permeability of Porous Asphalt Mixture

The drainage effect relates to the permeability of porous Asphalt Mixture. Based on the characteristic of water flow in the pores of the porous Asphalt Mixture, the methods to calculate and measure the permeability are recommended. With the permeability tests on porous Asphalt Mixture with different air voids content, the relationship between permeability and air voids content, pavement slope, as well as the relationship between desired air voids content and rainfall intensity, is obtained. The conclusion is suggested to be a guide for design of porous Asphalt pavement and Mixture.

The result shows that polyacrylonitrile fiber Asphalt Mixture is better than cellulose fiber and normal Asphalt Mixture in improving rutting resistance with any above method. And these methods have relevance in increasing rutting resistance.
