An example of a correct author Authority Record is given. Since the author Authority Records used 400 fields and thus pipe all the variant names to the one Record, any additions of Records with any of these variants will be handled by the online catalog. It is likely that we have included most of the common variants of key Fermilab authors' names, so the database should stay cleaner and more functional for years to come. This project was a success. Therefore an immediate future plan is to implement additional author Authority Records for the remainder of the authors in the database. Afterwards, Authority maintenance should be built in to Library work processes as an ongoing task.

2016Co-Authors: Wittaya Tewarangsri, Siwanath Nuntapichai, Thimaporn PhetkaewAbstract:บทคดยอ งานวจยนเปนงานวจยและพฒนามวตถประสงคเพอศกษา (1) วธการควบคมความถกตองของรายการหลกฐานหวเรอง (2) พฒนาโปรแกรมประยกตสาหรบควบคมรายการหลกฐานหวเรอง และ (3) วเคราะหและตรวจสอบรายการหลกฐานหวเรองของฐานขอมลสหบรรณานกรมสถาบนอดมศกษาไทย วธการศกษาประกอบดวย (1) การศกษาขอมลเบองตนจากเอกสารและการประชมรวมกบคณะกรรมการ ThaiLIS (2) การพฒนาโปรแกรมประยกตเพอควบคมรายการหลกฐานหวเรอง (3) การทดสอบโปรแกรม (System Testing) เพอวเคราะหและทดสอบรายการหลกฐานหวเรอง ผลการศกษาพบวา (1) วธการควบคมความถกตองควรมเงอนไขสาคญ 3 สวนคอ มรปแบบการทางานรวมกน มองคประกอบของระเบยน และมรปแบบการลงรายการระเบยนรายการหลกฐาน (2) คณสมบตของโปรแกรมประยกตมองคประกอบสาคญ 3 สวนคอ การสรางระเบยนอตโนมต การนาเขาระเบยน และการควบคมความถกตองของระเบยนรายการหลกฐาน (3) ผลการวเคราะหและตรวจสอบะเบยนรายการหลกฐาน พบวา สามารถวเคราะหและสรางระเบยนรายการหลกฐานหวเรองโดยอตโนมตไดจานวน 533,805 รายการ สามารถนาเขาระเบยนรายการหลกฐานหวเรองได 712,377 ระเบยน และสามารถตรวจสอบความซาซอนของรายการหวเรองไดจานวน 37,683 รายการ และเมอทดสอบโดยการปรบกฎเกณฑใหม พบวามระเบยนซาซอนลดลงรอยละ 10.1 และความซาซอนของหวเรองลดลงรอยละ 10.9 ผลการวจยสรปไดวาขอผดพลาดของรายการหลกฐานหวเรองจะลดลงเมอมการควบคมความถกตอง 2 สวนคอ ความถกตองของรปแบบการลงรายการ และความถกตองของโครงสรางความสมพนธของหวเรอง ซงขอสรปน สามารถนาไปใชพฒนาคณสมบตการทางานของโปรแกรมประยกตในระยะตอไป รวมทงสามารถนาไปใชเปนพนฐานของการพฒนากรอบแนวคดสาหรบการตรวจสอบความสมพนธของหวเรองสาหรบฐานขอมลสหบรรณานกรมสถาบนอดมศกษาไทยไดดวย Abstract This research and development study had 3 objectives: (1) examination of syntax and method for controlling the accuracy of the subject Authority Records, (2) development of application program for subject Authority controlling, and (3) analysis and verification of subject Authority control of UC-TAL (Union Catalog of Thai Academic Libraries Databases). The research methodology included (1) preliminary document scrutinizing and reviewing and the meetings with ThaiLIS committee, (2) development of application program for subject Authority Records control and (3) conducting the program application test and analysis of the accuracy of subject Authority data. The study has shown that the success factor of subject Authority control was influenced by three important conditions which were collaboration between ThaiLIS members, completed data of all required elements, and accuracy of each individual elements of Authority Record. The specification of subject Authority control application consists of three parts which are automatic Record generating, Record importing and Authority Record accuracy controlling. With the analysis and Record verification, it has found that the application is able to automatically generate new 533,805 subject Authority Records, import 699,010 subject Authority Records and detect 37,683 redundant Records. With the new Authority rules, it has shown that redundant Records and subject Records were reduced from 10.1% and 10.9% of initial redundancies respectively. The research concluded that the mistake from cataloging subject Records was able to reduce by using authoring Record control. The result from this research can be further applied for developing application in next phrase and basic concept for subject Authority Record relation verification framework which will be designed for UC-TAL.

Authority Control of Creators and the Second Edition of ISAAR(CPF), International Standard Archival Authority Record for Corporate Bodies, Persons, and Families
2004Co-Authors: Stefano VitaliAbstract:SUMMARY The International Standard Archival Authority Record (Corporate Bodies, Persons, Families), ISAAR(CPF), is a standard developed by the International Council on Archives for the management of creators of archives in archival descriptive systems. Since 2001, ISAAR(CPF) has been undergoing a revision process which will conclude at the next International Congress of Archives in Vienna in August 2004 when a second edition of the standard will be issued. The draft of the new edition of the standard, prepared by the Committee on Descriptive Standards, contains various changes in comparison with the first edition. The paper describes these changes, discussing their theoretical relevance, methodological implications, and practical consequences in archival descriptive systems. Harnessing the Power of Provenance in Archival Description : An Australian Perspective on the Development of the Second Edition of ISAAR(CPF)
2008Co-Authors: Adrian CunninghamAbstract:SUMMARY The publication in 2004 of the second edition of the International Standard Archival Authority Record (Corporate Bodies, Persons, Families) (ISAAR(CPF)2) signified a growing awareness within the archival profession of the need to standardise the documentation of the context of Records creation, a need that extends well beyond the traditional requirements of bibliographic systems for Authority control. This article examines, from an Australian perspective, the journey taken by the International Council on Archives Committee on Descriptive Standards in reviewing and revising the 1996 edition of ISAAR(CPF). It places this journey in the context of a generation of Australian innovations associated with the structured documentation of context and provenance, and reflects on possible future directions in relation to standardising the documentation of functions to form a trinity of descriptive entities: Records, agents and functions.
