How Far is the Spanish Snack Sector from Meeting the Acrylamide Regulation 2017/2158?

MoralesAbstract:In 2017, the European Commission published Regulation 2017/2158 establishing mitigation measures and Benchmark Levels to reduce acrylamide in foods. Acrylamide was determined in seventy potato crisp samples commercialized in Spain. The aim was to update knowledge about the global situation in the snack sector and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation strategies applied, especially since the publication of the Regulation. Results were compared with data previously published in 2004, 2008, and 2014, assessing the evolution over recent years. Average acrylamide content in 2019 (664 µg/kg, range 89–1930 μg/kg) was 55.3% lower compared to 2004, 10.3% lower compared to 2008 and practically similar to results from 2014. Results support the effectiveness of mitigation measures implemented by Spanish potato crisp manufacturers. However, 27% of samples exhibited concentrations above the Benchmark Level established in the Regulation (750 μg/kg), which suggests that efforts to reduce acrylamide formation in this sector must be continued. Besides the variability seen between samples, acrylamide significantly correlated with the color parameter a*, which enables discrimination of whether potato crisps contain above or below Benchmark content. The calculated margin of exposure for carcinogenicity was below the safety limit, which should be considered from a public health point of view.

Acrylamide content in French fries prepared in households: A pilot study in Spanish homes.

MoralesAbstract:Abstract An observational cross-sectional pilot study in 73 Spanish households was conducted to evaluate the impact of consumer practices on the formation of acrylamide during the preparation of French fries from fresh potatoes applying one stage frying. 45.2% of samples presented acrylamide concentrations above the Benchmark Level for French fries (500 µg/kg). 6.9% of samples exceeded 2000 µg/kg and the 95th percentile was 2028 µg/kg. The median and average values were significantly higher than the EFSA report for this food category, suggesting that the total exposure to acrylamide by the population could be underestimated. In this randomised scenario of cooking practices, the content of reducing sugar and asparagine did not explain the acrylamide Levels. However, the chromatic parameter a∗ of the fried potato was a powerful tool to classify the samples according to the acrylamide Benchmark Level regardless of the agronomical characteristics of the potato or the consumer practices.

Measurement of Tact Necessary to Prevent Industrial Disputes Leading to Loss of Productivity with Reference to Industries in South Bengal

It is, therefore, necessary to establish a Benchmark Level of tact or skill, that is required to ensure the prevention of Industrial Disputes. The Benchmark Level could be an empirical formula, or a model, or a set of regulatory data, that would be required to be satisfied. The procedure to be followed, requires a set of working hypothesis, a set of actual data collected from the industry, analyses of the data, results of the statistical tests of the data, and establishing an optimum model of tact, that would help deriving the set of regulatory data. Measurement of tact - An innovative way to prevent industrial disputes

It is, therefore, necessary to establish a Benchmark Level of tact or skill, that is required to ensure the prevention of Industrial Disputes. The paper is proposed to establish an empirical relationship, or a set of data, or a model of optimum tact, that is regulatory in terms of Benchmark Levels. The procedure to be followed, requires a set of working hypothesis, a set of actual data collected from the industry, analyses of the data, and drawing of the conclusion on the basis of the analyses. The working hypothesis of the paper would consider the routes to resolution, as Conciliation, Mediation, Arbitration and Intervention. Data for the work were collected from five samples, that were located in territories within the southern districts of the state of West Bengal. The analysis of the collected data and the results of the statistical tests clearly establish that a model of optimum tact, derived by using the zero-sum theory, is an innovative way to prevent industrial disputes.

Second-Degree Price Discrimination on Two-Sided Markets

By imposing a simple two-sided framework with two distinct types of agents on one of its market sides, it will be shown that under incomplete information, the extent of platform access for high-demand agents is strictly reduced below the Benchmark Level (complete information). In addition, the paper’s findings imply that it is feasible in the optimum to charge higher payments from low-demand agents if the extent of interaction with agents from the opposite market side is assumed to be bundle-specific.

Second-Degree Price Discrimination on Two-Sided Markets

In a simple framework with two distinct types of agents on market side 1, we show that under incomplete information the extent of platform access for high-demand agents is strictly reduced below the Benchmark Level with complete information. In addition, the paper finds that it is feasible in the monopoly optimum that the bundle for low-demand agents is more expensive than the one for high-demand agents if the extent of interaction with agents from the opposite market side is assumed to be bundle-specific.

micro Benchmark Level performance comparison of high speed cluster interconnects

PandaAbstract:In this paper we present a comprehensive performance evaluation of three high speed cluster interconnects: Infini-Band, Myrinet and Quadrics. We propose a set of micro-Benchmarks to characterize different performance aspects of these interconnects. Our micro-Benchmark suite includes not only traditional tests and performance parameters, but also those specifically tailored to the interconnects advanced features such as user-Level access for performing communication and remote direct memory access. In order to explore the full communication capability of the interconnects, we have implemented the micro-Benchmark suite at the low Level messaging layer provided by each interconnect. Our performance results show that all three interconnects achieve low latency, high bandwidth and low host overhead. However, they show quite different performance behaviors when handling completion notification, unbalanced communication patterns and different communication buffer reuse patterns.
