  • facets a cognitive Business Intelligence System
    Information Systems, 2013
    Co-Authors: Li Niu, Guangquan Zhang
    Abstract:

A cognitive decision support System called FACETS was developed and evaluated based on the situation retrieval (SR) model. The aim of FACETS is to provide decision makers cognitive decision support in ill-structured decision situations. The design and development of FACETS includes novel concepts, models, algorithms and System architecture, such as ontology and experience representation, situation awareness parsing, data warehouse query construction and guided situation presentation. The experiments showed that FACETS is able to play a significant role in supporting ill-structured decision making through developing and enriching situation awareness.

  • An Exploratory Cognitive Business Intelligence System
IEEE WIC ACM International Conference on Web Intelligence (WI'07), 2007
Co-Authors: Jie Lu, Eng Chew, Guangquan Zhang
    Abstract:

An exploratory study of Web-based cognitive Business Intelligence Systems (CBIS) is presented in this paper. The underpinning concepts and theories are situation awareness, mental model, and naturalistic decision making (NDM). The CBIS is an extension of the traditional Business Intelligence System with cognitive orientation. It focuses on developing, enriching, and utilizing the executive's situation awareness, mental models, and other past experience during human-computer interaction, which drives the decision process to approach a naturalistic decision.

    Abstract:

In the agricultural sector, rice is the staple food of Indonesian society is important and can not be replaced. The price of rice became a barometer for other prices. If the price of rice goes up then the price of other goods would also be affected, thus leading to instability in various fields. Divre was important to meet rice supplies in each province. Then performance of divre should be monitored to see its development. Monitoring procurement performance with a look of fulfillment divre subdivre, realization contract partners and availability of goods that can be measured in value through realization of contract, is there divre are able to meet rice procurement in accordance with the target planning. Developing Business Intelligence using pentaho on the procurement process with Business methods dimensional life-cycle is required to monitor procurement performance. By using the Business Intelligence, data contract realization divre particularly from aspect of performance availability and fulfillment of goods displayed into the dashboard. Dashboard of performance availability and fulfillment of goods are visualized informatively, so executive manager can read data more quickly and easily in monitoring and evaluating performance of appropriate rice procurement divre compliance of contract.
    Abstract:

This thesis intends to bring forward a proposal for an insurance company to gain them a competitive advantage in the insurance market – specifically in vehicle insurance – which is based on the design of a Business Intelligence System that allows them to get a cross-cutting control of customer information, being able to identify their profile, behavior and needs to classify them and focus sales campaigns on those that are more likely to hire insurance services, which are at the same time most profitable, in a way to ensure a productive client portfolio for the Company. In various research studies, it has been identified that one of the most important channels to manage customer retention and/or insurance renewal is through the phone. This is mainly due to the fact that the phone allows for a direct contact with the customer to solve all of their questions and speed up the buying process, thus preventing customers from going to the Company or contacting a bróker to purchase the insurance. Based on this, the design of this Business Intelligence System links the operations i telemarketing sales management with the System to be designed, supported on a dynamic involving constant interaction and information sharing between four main áreas: Product Area, Sales Area, Claims and Losses Area, and especially the Business Intelligence Area. Each one with their corresponding roles and responsabilities in order to establish synergies and contribute to efficiency. In the final section we present the analysis and interpretation of the results obtained in the pilot test run in a renowned insurance Company, which allows us to validate the proposed hypothesis and measure the real impact, as well as the cost-benefit of its implementation.

  • cloud computing boosts Business Intelligence of telecommunication industry
International Conference on Cloud Computing, 2009
Co-Authors: Dan Gao, Chao Deng, Zhiguo Luo, Shaoling Sun
    Abstract:

Business Intelligence becomes an attracting topic in today's data intensive applications, especially in telecommunication industry. Meanwhile, Cloud Computing providing IT supporting Infrastructure with excellent scalability, large scale storage, and high performance becomes an effective way to implement parallel data processing and data mining algorithms. BC-PDM (Big Cloud based Parallel Data Miner) is a new MapReduce based parallel data mining platform developed by CMRI (China Mobile Research Institute) to fit the urgent requirements of Business Intelligence in telecommunication industry. In this paper, the architecture, functionality and performance of BC-PDM are presented, together with the experimental evaluation and case studies of its applications. The evaluation result demonstrates both the usability and the cost-effectiveness of Cloud Computing based Business Intelligence System in applications of telecommunication industry.
