    Abstract:

The mining Process is responsible for generating knowledge and Processes to find from the records that are extracted in information systems. • Business Process management systems
International Conference on Data Engineering, 2003
    Co-Authors: A Nori
    Abstract:

Business Process Automation is what e-Business is all about. The essence of an "electronically" powered Business is its ability to streamline operations, making information available where and when it is needed, thus increasing customer satisfaction and improving efficiency and effectiveness. However, implementing a solution for automating Business Processes presents significant difficulties at the Business and technical levels. Through the years, enterprises have adopted various means for automating Processes, from hand-coding a solution to using integration products and middleware technologies. The key characteristics for each of these solutions are that they are proprietary, expensive and complex. Additionally, they require a lot of time and a high skill set in order to succeed in an integration initiative. Fortunately, recent technical developments have come together that promise a dramatic increase in the ability of Businesses to describe, change, and execute Business Processes, both within the enterprise and across the networked enterprise. There will be a new breed of Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) that support the management of end-to-end transactional and collaboration Processes: discovery, design, deployment, execution, interaction, operation/maintenance, analysis and optimization. BPM is emerging as a key enabler of collaborative commerce. In this seminar, we will comprehensively look at the emerging field of Business Process Management Systems (BPMS). We will study different steps of BPM, the underlying technologies (workflow, rules, data and application integration etc.), Process based architectures and tools, and case studies illustrating the benefits of BPM.

  • flexible integration of blockchain with Business Process Automation a federated architecture
Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering, 2020
Co-Authors: Michael Adams, Akhil Kumar, Suriadi Suriadi, Arthur H M Ter Hofstede
    Abstract:

Blockchain technology enables various Business transactions to be performed in an immutable and transparent manner. Within the Business Process management community, blockchain technology has been positioned as a way to better support the execution of inter-organisational Business Processes, where the entities involved may not completely trust each other. However, the architectures proposed thus far in the literature for blockchain-enabled Business Process management can be described as “heavy-weight”, since they promote the blockchain platform as the monolithic focal point of all Business logic and Process operations. We propose an alternative: a federated and flexible architecture that leverages the capabilities of blockchain, but without overloading the functionalities of the blockchain platform with those already extant in Business Process Management Systems (BPMSs). We illustrate its benefits, and demonstrate its feasibility, through the implementation of a prototype.

  • research commentary workflow management issues in e Business
    Information Systems Research, 2002
    Co-Authors: Amit Basu, Akhil Kumar
    Abstract:

Trends towards increased Business Process Automation, e-commerce, and e-Business have led to increasing interest in the field of workflow management. In this paper, we provide a perspective on the state of research in workflow management systems, and discuss possible future research directions in this area, with a particular emphasis on workflow systems in integrating interorganizational Processes and enabling e-commerce solutions.

  • actor based Business Process Automation via intelligent Business objects
    Business Process Management, 2017
    Co-Authors: Florian Unterberger, Robert Singer
    Abstract:

Business Processes are a vital part of every company. But, executing Business Processes with conventional Business Process engines is complex, and so people rely on services such as email, where Processes naturally emerge from the users' interactions. Instead of relying on the typical centralized and monolithic architecture of Business Process engines, this work shows, that a decentralized approach utilizing the Actor Model and Intelligent Business Objects (IBOs) is also feasible. Using the Actor Model, the Process engine is distributed on several smaller independent actors, which enables a high flexibility. But instead of needing to store Process configurations on actors to execute a Process, the Process configuration is stored in an Intelligent Business Object, which is passed around by the actors for each Process instance. As a proof-of-concept, a prototype has been developed.

  • semantic enterprise description for the needs of Business Process Automation
Computer Software and Applications Conference, 2008
Co-Authors: Agata Filipowska, Monika Kaczmarek, Monika Starzecka, Piotr Stolarski, Adam Walczak
    Abstract:

Enterprises today face an increasing need to easily access and Process knowledge they produce as well as automate their Business Processes. This need may be fulfilled by taking advantage of the Semantic Web and Semantic Web services technologies and implementing the concept of Semantic Business Process Management. In order to fulfil this vision, an enterprise and the specified part of the knowledge from the enterprisepsilas environment needs to be properly described. The main goal of this paper is to present Business Roles Ontology (BRO) and Business Functions Ontology (BFO) which are to provide description of Business functions and corresponding Business roles. Both ontologies may be used within automated Business Process management lifecycle and are the result of our research work.
