  • ACM Multimedia - Automatic lecture recording
Proceeding of the 16th ACM international conference on Multimedia - MM '08, 2008
Co-Authors: Fleming Lampi, Stephan Kopf, Wolfgang Effelsberg
    Abstract:

We present our system for automatic lecture recording. In contrast to traditional lecture recording systems our approach aims to imitate a real camera team, consisting of multiple cameramen and a director, in order to make the recording more vivid. At first, we introduce the environment. Then, we present our approach, beginning with the director module, followed by the Cameraman module and the sensor tools module, referring to the jobs of the respective human originals. The director is based on an Extended Finite State Machine, with transition conditions depending on input from sensor tools. The Cameraman automatically controls iris, focus, etc., and also takes basic cinematographic rules into account. The video concludes with an example result of our virtual camera team of a real lecture. A video demo of our approach is available at [4].

  • an automatic Cameraman in a lecture recording system
    ACM Multimedia, 2007
Co-Authors: Fleming Lampi, Stephan Kopf, Manuel Benz, Wolfgang Effelsberg
    Abstract:

We describe the design and implementation of an automatic Cameraman for lecture recording. A major problem with traditional lecture recordings is that they tend to be boring for the students, especially if only the slides and the audio of the lecturer are pre-sented. In a first step, we determine the tasks a real Cameraman would have, in particular with respect to liveliness of the video. We then adapt these tasks to a computer system and show in detail how they can be implemented. In a second step, we describe how our algorithms support the virtual director system into which the automatic Cameraman is integrated. We conclude that lecture re-cordings can be much more lively and interesting using our approach.

  • The Theatrical Newsreel Cameraman: Part 2
    SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, 2004
    Co-Authors: D. K. Malkames
    Abstract:

As one of the last Pathe News staff cameramen in the years before the final theatrical newsreel issue was released in 1967, this writer had the unique opportunity to know most of the aging breed of newsreel cameramen who witnessed and recorded outstanding world events during the three preceding decades. This paper, the second of two parts, is an overview of that era when the theatrical newsreel was at its zenith. Part 1, in an earlier issue of the Motion Imaging Journal, 1 dealt with the theatrical newsreel companies, their organization, personalities, and historical anecdotes. This part will cover the technological aspects of the theatrical newsreel operations.

  • a sound directed Cameraman accommodating unfettered speaking in e learning classrooms
Pacific Rim Conference on Multimedia, 2009
    Co-Authors: Ruimin Shen, Zeyu Chen
    Abstract:

The Cameraman plays a vital role in e-learning classroom, which provides the focal scene to broadcast automatically according to the on-the-spot instruction context. However, the existing cameramen have some drawbacks in meeting the relevant requires, especially in tracking the sound objects. Thereby, we present a sound-directed Cameraman, which can track the sound object and captures his/her focal video in a compelling precision automatically according to users' demands beforehand. Besides, it owns a good few merits, such as switching scene video fluently, facility in setting the shooting demands, flexibility for calibrating.

  • Role of Camerawoman in the Process of Television News Coverage at the Military Judicial Proceedings I/02 Medan

    Abstract:

Information becomes very important in people's lives. It has been marked by the emergence of information society including in Indonesia. Factors contributing to the creation of the society are the emergence of new technologies, news media, and news audiences. Audiovisual or television technology that may at this time has become a favorite of Indonesian society as a medium that allows to spread information without any space and time limits. The media therefore seeks to fulfill the demands of the community by presenting information quickly, but still pay attention to the principles and code of ethics that are accurate, actual and factual. In the making of news programs, various elements are required to be delivered and distributed to the wider community. Some key elements that make a news program can serve are producers, coverage coordinators, reporters, Cameraman and editors. In the implementation of the producer is someone who is harvesting the team and is responsible for the news that aired. A coverage coordinator is a person who is looking for information according to the producer's direction to give directions to the reporter and the field Cameraman. A Reporter is someone who is tasked with searching for data. Cameraman is a person responsible for visual/image recording as the raw material of the news-making at the moment of coverage. And editors are tasked to make the materials obtained from the field become an impression that is ready to show. Cameraman/It has a very important role in audiovisual media. Because in every news, to be served contains several elements that are information, audio/sound and video/images. Without any visuals/images that support audio/sound from the information obtained, the given dish has less response from the audience. How an audio/sound and video/image is coupled with the best possible to present a more detailed information for the audience. For audio/sound can be manipulated or inserted when it is entered in the Space editor by the team but not for a picture of events that occur.
