an analysis of network based control system using Can Controller area network protocol
International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2001Co-Authors: Jong Man Jeon, Dae Won Kim, Hong Seok Kim, Yong Jo Cho, Beom Hee LeeAbstract:This paper analyses an architecture of network-based control system and deals with its application using the Can protocol. It is difficult to determine an optimal network architecture for a specific system. We propose an architecture of the network-based control system applicable to a specific AGV system with a manipulator arm. The fixed number of periodic messages to be occurred is pre-defined in this system. To determine whether the proposed system architecture is effective or not, we perform a traffic analysis for the real-time communication of all messages. Through simulation, the range of transmission speed is found satisfying the required conditions, and the number of possible sensors to be added is investigated for improving the system performance, when the sampling periods of analog sensors are determined under a fixed condition that the transmission speed is over 500 Kbits/sec.

Can Controller area network bus communication system based on matlab simulink
International Conference on Wireless Communications Networking and Mobile Computing, 2008Co-Authors: Lifang Wang, Chengli LiaoAbstract:Can bus communication system was established mainly using SimEvents module in the software of Matlab/Simulink. Performance indexes of Can bus system, which embraces worst-case response time of messages and bus load, were separately gained by theoretical calculation, experiments in Matlab and Canoe. The calculation and experiment results were compared sufficiently, and it concludes that Can bus system established in Matlab/Simulink Can efficiently represent the message transfer sequences on the Can bus, and achieve an exact result of the performance analysis of the Can bus system. With Can bus system established in Matlab/Simulink, test modules for ECU (Electric Control Unit) testing Can conveniently be created, and it is an efficient testing tool for Can bus system design.

Implementing Modbus and Can Bus Protocol Conversion Interface
Industrial Sensors and Controls in Communication Networks, 2019Co-Authors: Dong-seong Kim, Hoa Tran-dangAbstract:In communication system design, a key challenge is the ability to make different components from different manufactures communicates with each other. In communication system design, a key challenge is the ability to make different components from different manufactures communicates with each other. A number of field buses are available to exchange the serial data among one or more Controllers and a number of field devices that are communicating with each other. However, fieldbus Fieldbus standards are currently not uniform, which brings many difficulties in system design, as different equipment from different manufacturers follow different standards. For a reliable system design, there is a need of efficient communication interface to make the communication possible. Many serial communication protocols like RS-232/RS-485, I2C, SPI, Modbus Modbus and Can Controller Area Network (Can) bus, etc., were used in embedded systems. All these protocols have their own advantages and limitations. Generally, different manufactures follow different protocols and standards. This makes the system integration task very difficult. Hence, there must be several means to make this task easier. Protocol conversion interface Protocol conversion interface is one of the possible solutions for this problem. Can Controller Area Network (Can) bus and Modbus Modbus are two most common fieldbus Fieldbus protocol used in industrial control systems. This chapter implements a Can Controller Area Network (Can) bus to Modbus Modbus protocol conversion interface Protocol conversion interface and investigates the feasibility of such interface in meeting the communication requirements of system.

Industrial Sensors and Controls in Communication Networks, 2019Co-Authors: Dong-seong Kim, Hoa Tran-dangAbstract:Controller Area Network (Can) Controller Area Network (Can) is a multi-master serial bus Multi-master serial bus that allows an efficient transmission of data between different nodes in the industrial bus communication. The advantage features of Can Controller Area Network (Can) protocol include flexibility, reliability, robustness Robustness and standard and Can support real-time communication Real-time communication . Since Can Controller Area Network (Can) is message-based and not address-based, it is especially suited when data is needed by more than one location. Can Controller Area Network (Can) is ideally suited in applications requiring in a large number of short messages with high reliability High reliability in rugged operating environments.
