Two of these patients, who had consumed some alcohol, experienced dysgeusia but no disulfiram-like reaction. The only lethal case recorded was a truck driver who was found dead of acute lung injury after falling into a tank that had previously contained metam sodium. Two patients who ingested a dilute solution, presented with mild epigastric pain. Four skin exposures caused erythema (n = 2), moderate burns (n = 1), and urticaria (n = 1). According to the poisoning severity score, their symptoms were minor in 99% of cases. Conclusion. Acute metam sodium exposure usually causes minor symptoms. They vary as a function of the circumstances of exposure, which determine the degradation product that forms. On contact with moist soil, metam sodium decomposes into MITC and causes irritant symptoms. Under specific conditions, such as a spillage in the drainage system, metam sodium can degrade into CS2 and cause neurological signs.

ab initio molecular orbital studies of the vibrational spectra of some van der waals complexes part 2 complexes of ozone with Carbon dioxide Carbonyl sulphide and Carbon Disulphide
Journal of Molecular Structure, 2003Co-Authors: Manomayi Venayagamoorthy, T A FordAbstract:Molecular complexes of sulphur dioxide with Carbon dioxide, Carbonyl sulphide and Carbon Disulphide have been observed and characterized in the gas phase, and have recently been reported in the literature. As part of a study of the properties of a variety of weakly bound complexes containing these three linear triatomic species as electron acceptors, we have now investigated the ozone complexes analogous to these sulphur dioxide adducts. We have determined the equilibrium structures, the interaction energies, corrected for basis set superposition error, and the vibrational spectra. The wavenumber shifts on complexation have been calculated, and the results are predicted to be useful in interpreting the matrix isolation infrared spectra of these complexes, which will be the subject of a separate study.

Journal of Molecular Structure, 2001Co-Authors: Manomayi Venayagamoorthy, T A FordAbstract:Abstract The structures, interaction energies and vibrational spectra of four weak van der Waals complexes containing molecular nitrogen, as electron donor, and the linear triatomic molecules Carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, Carbonyl sulphide and Carbon Disulphide, as electron acceptors, have been determined by carrying out a series of ab initio molecular orbital calculations using the Gaussian 98 computer program. The calculations were performed at the second order level of Moller-Plesset perturbation theory, employing the 6-311+G(d) basis set. The results have been interpreted by correlation with some molecular properties of the electron acceptors. The predicted spectra will be used as aids in the interpretation of the matrix isolation infrared spectra of the complexes determined experimentally.
