    Abstract:

    “If the application of new diagnostic criteria will enlarge the possibility of diagnostic confusion between primary headaches with sleep apneas and sleep apnea headache, then pathophysiological investigations will also be negatively influenced.” Sleep apnea headache is an infrequent form of secondary headache in spite of the prevalence of its Causal Condition, the sleep apnea. Its real prevalence is uncertain for several reasons: differences of the studies (population-based or clinical studies), differences of diagnostic criteria used in the past years and the frequent alternative, even incorrect, use of morning headache instead of sleep apnea headache (being the second a subgroup of the first, that in turn is a unspecific Condition).     Abstract:

    To summarize the literature on the detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with “cryptogenic” stroke, a cohort including about 25% of all ischemic stroke patients and patients with embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS). A first episode of AF is detected in up to one third of cryptogenic stroke and in up to one fourth of ESUS patients during long-term monitoring. AF prevalence correlates to patient selection, duration, and quality of ECG monitoring. Higher rates of AF were reported in stroke patients with left atrial pathology, specific ECG alterations, or increased natriuretic peptides. While AF detection impacts on medical stroke prevention in the vast majority of patients, patient selection for prolonged monitoring is largely left at the physician’s discretion. AF detection after cryptogenic stroke or ESUS is a frequent, potentially Causal Condition. Whether subsequent oral anticoagulation may improve outcome remains open.

  • Globally hyperbolic spacetimes can be defined without the `Causal' Condition

    Abstract:

    Reasonable spacetimes are non-compact and of dimension larger than two. We show that these spacetimes are globally hyperbolic if and only if the Causal diamonds are compact. That is, there is no need to impose the Causality Condition, as it can be deduced. We also improve the definition of global hyperbolicity for the non-regular theory (non $C^{1,1}$ metric) and for general cone structures by proving the following convenient characterization for upper semi-continuous cone distributions: Causality and the Causally convex hull of compact sets is compact. In this case the Causality Condition cannot be dropped, independently of the spacetime dimension. Similar results are obtained for Causal simplicity.

    Feed-forward active noise control (ANC) systems act as adaptive systems to control and cancel undesired signals and noises. If the delay in the noise canceling subsystems increases more than the delays in the primary path, non-Causal Condition will occur in these systems. In this paper, study of noise canceling performance of feed-forward fuzzy-based ANC systems for ducts under non-Causal Condition is presented. For this purpose, we use fuzzy filtered-x algorithm as an adaptive filter and the results are compared with classical filtered-x algorithm which is employed under the same Conditions. Analysis shows that ANC system using fuzzy algorithm has better efficiency for noise cancellation in non-Causal Condition
