dependency guided Service composition for user Centric soa

For user-Centric SOA, not only Services, workflows and application templates can be published and discovered for composition. Furthermore, a user can publish an application template and let providers supply the needed Services. A key issue in user-Centric Service composition is to intelligently and effectively discover the subset of correlated Services that best match the users’ requirements. This paper proposes a two-steps composition process. In the first step, users choose templates from ontology with its dependency. The dependency information identifies a set of candidate Services and workflows that may be applicable for composition. In the send step, after the templates are selected, users can finalize the selection of Services and workflows from a set of candidate Services or workflows based on their preference. This 2-step process is supported by dependency identification algorithms and is illustrated using a case study.

UCSOA is an extension of consumer-Centric Service-oriented architecture (CCSOA), which is an extension of conventional SOA. The conventional SOA is producer-Centric because Service providers publish their Services and Service consumers must search available Services to compose their applications. CCSOA is different as it allows consumers publish their needs including workflows and Services, and let producers to produce Services to meet the requirements. Based on CCSOA, UCSOA provides support for end users. An application builder is an engineer who has both domain and programming knowledge, while an end user has little knowledge on programming and thus UCSOA needs to allow nontechnical persons to compose their applications. The current SOA is producer-Centric, because the basic idea is that Service providers publish Services that they produce and let the consumers to search available Services to compose their applications. CCSOA focuses on consumers' publishing the Services they need and even the applications they need. The Service providers must produce Services that are in need. This new paradigm extends the design and code sharing, and thus further improves the software productivity. This paper presents the concepts, architecture, enabling techniques, and illustrative examples.

Quality of Service (QoS) is a very important criterion for Service consumers to measure and select Services. The selection of web Services with respect to non-functional QoS criteria can be considered as a Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem when multiple consumers need to share a number of Services. This paper describes a new user Centric Service-oriented modeling approach which is featured by integrating fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Service Component Architecture (SCA) to facilitate web Service selection and composition and to effectively satisfy a group of Service consumers' subjective requirements and preferences in the dynamic environment. The main contribution of this method is able to translate a group of users' fuzzy requirements to Services as well as model different levels of hardware and software as Services to meet the requirements. We also design a simulated environment that includes 8*8 LED matrix on a circuit board that corresponds to an office with different appliances to demonstrate the dynamic Service selection and binding. The simulation is used to assess the computational efficiency of the fuzzy TOPSIS method and the effectiveness of the proposed system.

By upgrading end-users to prosumers (producer+consumer) and involving them in the process of Service creation, both Service consumers and Service providers can benefit from a cheaper, faster, and better Service provisioning. The EU-IST research project OPUCE (Open Platform for User-Centric Service Creation and Execution) aims at building a unique Service environment by integrating recent advances in networking, communication and information technology where personalized Services can be dynamically created and managed by prosumers. This paper particularly discusses the design and development of a Service repository, which is at the very core of the OPUCE platform. The repository consists of two main components: a fully functioned XML registry supporting facet-based access to Service descriptions, and a novel semantic Service browser that supports prosumers who are not technically experienced to explore and discover Services in an intuitive and visualized manner. We demonstrate the benefits of our design by conducting usability and performance studies.
