    Abstract:

    A stabilization problem for a class of nonlinear control systems is considered. Systems in this class can be viewed as a cascade connection of a linear time-invariant subsystem, a nonlinear time-periodic static subsystem, and an integrator. Hybrid logic-based feedback controllers are constructed to globally stabilize these systems to the origin. The controllers operate by switching between various time-periodic control functions at discrete-time instants. As specific applications, we consider stabilization of nonholonomic control systems in power form to the origin and stabilization of trajectories for a class of nonlinear control systems. Numerical examples of global stabilization and tracking are reported.

    Abstract:

    The Asian clam Corbicula fluminea, originating from Southeast Asia, was first recorded in Lake Constance in 2003 and developed local mass occurrences afterwards. Effects of harsh winter conditions in 2005/2006 associated with a strongly decreasing water level were studied at three different depths at and below the mean low water level (MLL, MLL −1 m and MLL −3m). Low winter temperatures produced a massive die-off of the C. fluminea population. The mortality of the clams was size class and depth dependent. At the mean low water level (MLL), all clams died because of lying dry. However, at MLL −1 m and at MLL −3 m, mortality was a consequence of water temperatures around 2°C for nearly 3 months. At MLL −3 m, clams >5 mm died later than young clams 5 mm at MLL −3 m were dead and only about 1% of the overall population of C. fluminea survived the winter conditions until spring 2006. Lethal effects of low water temperatures on C. fluminea, which may become effective only after a time lag, were corroborated in an outdoor mesocosm experiment with constant water level and without predation

    Abstract:

    Abstract The effective use of the sorption properties of different clays as sorbents for the removal of dyes from wastewater has currently received much attention because of the eco-friendly nature of clay materials. Dyes are complex class of organic compound having wide range of applications in textile and food industries and a large amount of dyes are wasted, which get mixed in natural water resources. Mixing of dyes in water resources must be prohibited for the safety of natural ecosystem. The adsorbents (natural and modified) have been successfully used for the adsorption of dyes form wastewater. This review article highlights the importance of clay (raw and modified) as an adsorbent for the adsorption of dyes from textile wastewater. Appropriate conditions for clay-dye system and adsorption capacities of a variety of clays are presented and sorption process is critically analyzed. Studies reported the clays as an adsorbent from 2004 to 2016 are included and different properties for the utilization of clay and clay-based adsorbents are discussed. Based on studies, it was found that the clays (natural and modified) are affective adsorbents for the purification of wastewater containing dyes.
