    A speech recognition system based on an Internet Client-server model is presented in this paper. A Java applet records the voice at the Client Computer, sends the recorded speech file over the Internet, and the server Computer recognizes the speech and displays the recognized text back to the user. Using this structure, an isolated digit recognition application was realized.

    Abstract:

    Given an object, its positioning in the space is a main concern in\nstructural monitoring and a required feedback in structural health\nmonitoring, structural control and robotics. In addition, to make the\nsensor unit wireless is a crucial issue for advanced applications. This\npaper deals with the exploitation of wireless transmission technology to\nlong-term monitoring GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers - like\nthe Leica GMX 902 and the Leica GRX 1200-pro. These GPS receivers\nconsist of five parts: antenna, receiver, user Client Computer,\ninterface and power supply. The antenna is mounted on the object to be\nmonitored and is connected with the receiver by a coaxial-cable through\nwhich the radio frequency signals are transmitted. The receiver unit\nacquires, tracks and demodulates the satellite signals and provides,\nthrough an interface which in this paper is made wireless, the resulting\nGPS raw data to the user Client Computer for being further processed by\na suitable positioning algorithm. The power supply reaches the Computer\nby a wired link, while the other modules rely on batteries re-charged by\npower harvesting devices. Two wireless transmission systems, the\n24XStream and the CC1110, are applied to replace the cable transmission\nbetween the receiver and the user Client Computer which up to now was\nthe only market offer. To verify the performance and the reliability of\nthis wireless transmission system, some experiments are conducted. The\nresults show a successful cable replacement.

    This paper deals with the application of wireless transmission technology to longterm monitoring GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers. They consist of five parts: antenna, receiver, user Client Computer, interface and power supply. The antenna is mounted on the structure to be monitored and is connected with the receiver by a coaxial-cable through which the radio frequency signals are transmited. The receiver unit acquires, tracks and demodulates the satellite signals and provides, through an interface made wireless, the resulting GPS raw data to the user Client Computer for being futher processed by a suitable positioning algorithm. The power supply reaches the Computer by a wired link, while the other modules rely on batteries.

    Abstract:

    We discuss here the issues faced by earth scientists in analyzing and visualizing large datasets over a GRID-like setup from a Client-server perspective. We approach this problem by using a remote, web-based visualization and data analysis framework, called WEB-IS, and by employing second-generation wavelets as a means for reducing the amount of data transferred and for extracting coherent features in complex geophysical flows and surface faulting patterns. As an example, we describe how onboard processors on satellites can function as a server for beaming down extracted information to the Client Computer on the ground, thus exemplifying WEB-IS as a viable middleware on a GRID network for geosciences.
