    Abstract:

    Based on sufficient research of production process of Coal Preparation and its characteristics, the maintechnological process of virtual Coal Preparation is constructed by building up logical framework of Coal Preparationtechnological process and filling in equipment and interface unit by layer. After movement rules of Coal granule in mediator are summarized, movement model of intelligent granule in typical equipment (e.g. jig) can be set up. The model provides a new method and way to explore the movement and the layer of intelligent granule, to study Coal Preparation technique, to select technology parameters, and to adjust control parameters of equipment.

    Abstract:

    In this paper, a method to calculate the intangible quality cost of the Coal Preparation plant is put forward according to the characteristics of production and management in the Coal Preparation plant. The model of quality performance assessment of the Coal Preparation plant is established based on the cost of quality. The strategy to carry out the system is given by using of CIMS system integrated environment and the application example is also introduced. It provides a new and feasible way to assess the quality management of the Coal Preparation plant.

    The signal flowgraph technique is utilized to represent the flowsheet of a Coal Preparation plant. The flowsheet is assumed to be composed of one or combination of density and/or size-separators. A gain formula is used to establish the relationships between the end or any intermediate product and feed. Several typical Coal washing circuits as well as existing Coal Preparation plant flowsheets are considered to illustrate the feasibility of the proposed technique. The proposed method streamlines the calculations of performance predictions of a complex flowsheet using the step by step approach and simplifies computer programming for modelling purposes.

    Comprehensive software packages have been developed at the Western Research Centre as tools to help Coal Preparation engineers analyze, evaluate, and control Coal cleaning processes. The Coal Preparation Software package (COPS) performs three functions: (1) data handling and manipulation, (2) data analysis, including the generation of washability data, performance evaluation and prediction, density and size modeling, evaluation of density and size partition characteristics and attrition curves, and (3) generation of graphics output. The Separation ChARacteristics Estimation software packages (SCARE) are developed to balance raw density or size separation data. The cases of density and size separation data are considered. The generated balanced data can take the balanced or normalized forms. The scaled form is desirable for direct determination of the partition functions (curves). The raw and generated separation data are displayed in tabular and/or graphical forms. The computer softwares described in this paper are valuable tools for Coal Preparation plant engineers and operators for evaluating process performance, adjusting plant parameters, and balancing raw density or size separation data. These packages have been applied very successfully in many projects carried out by WRC for the Canadian Coal Preparation industry. The software packages are designed to run on a personal computer (PC).
