  • Efficiency improvement of a vibration energy harvesting generator by using additional vibrating system
    2017
    Co-Authors: K. I. Nedelchev, I. M. Kralov
    Abstract:

Influence of an additional vibrating system attached to the cantilever beam of elastic support upon the frequency response of a Piezo-Electric Vibration Energy Generator (PeVEG) is treated. Coefficient of Elasticity of this additional vibrating system is the main varying parameter due to its practical implementation. Based on the results some practical conclusions are made.Influence of an additional vibrating system attached to the cantilever beam of elastic support upon the frequency response of a Piezo-Electric Vibration Energy Generator (PeVEG) is treated. • Method for Objective Assessment of Terry Fabrics Handle
    2015
Co-Authors: Diana Germanova‐krasteva, Galya Dimitrova Kandzhikova
    Abstract:

The aim of the work is development of a methodology and an integrated assessment for objective evaluation of terry fabrics handle. They should meet the following criteria, which will allow to use them not only in scientific researches, but also in the quality control of products in manufacturing plants: to be based on standardized methods or universal appliances, the assessment to be easily calculated and to comply with the most common scale for handle evaluation – that of Kawabata. The integrated assessment is derived my means of the multiple regression analysis and includes six characteristics of terry fabrics that have a proven impact on handle: thickness, relative compression at pressing, bending stiffness, Coefficient of Elasticity at tension, Coefficient of Elasticity at shearing and dynamic Coefficient of friction. The assessment obtained corresponds to the subjective one. The methodology for evaluation is worked out as a draft standard. A software application for automatic computation of the assessment is developed. It runs under Windows, does not require installation and is easy to use.

  • criticism on Elasticity sensitivity Coefficient for assessing the robustness and sensitivity of ecosystem services values
    Ecosystem services, 2016
Co-Authors: Vasileios Aschonitis, Mattias Gaglio, Giuseppe Castaldelli, Elisa Anna Fano
    Abstract:

Abstract The Coefficient of Sensitivity CS (or Coefficient of Elasticity) is used to determine the sensitivity and robustness of prices (Coefficients) in the analysis of Ecosystem Services (ESs). The common CS approach is applied based on a specific % change of an ES Coefficient keeping constant the Coefficients of the remaining ESs. This approach assumes that when CS value is >1 then the estimated ES value is non-robust because it is elastic. The aim of this study is to show that the common approach of CS used in ESs studies is erroneously applied and interpreted. A simplistic calculus is provided which shows that the CS values of ESs a) are always in the range between 0 and 1 leading always to the conclusion that the applied Coefficients by the users are robust, and b) are always independent by the % change of an ES Coefficient defined by the user. Other reasons which question the validity of the common approach are that the CS values a) are always positive which is unrealistic in real market since it always violates the “law of demand” and b) can be manipulated by the user by changing the boundaries of the study area.

  • Measuring carbon emission sensitivity to economic shocks: a panel structural vector autoregression 1870–2016
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
Co-Authors: Marinko Skare, Dalia Streimikiene, Damian Skare
    Abstract:

The study of the link between production, measured in gross domestic product and CO_2 emissions, is a topic under intense research. Carbon emissions are moving together with economic shocks (high synchronicity), particularly at troughs and peaks of a business cycle. This research investigates the influence of economic shocks to carbon emissions. Previous studies do not provide a direct empirical evidence on the impact of economic shocks to carbon emissions that are available. We employ structural vector autoregression to explore the impact of economic shocks on carbon emissions in 20 advanced economies from 1870 to 2016. Our empirical results prove a strong, statistically significant connection between emissions and output with a Coefficient of Elasticity > 1. We identify a strong empirical link using panel structural vector autoregression between carbon emissions and real GDP growth per capita. Up to 40% of the fluctuations in CO_2 emissions is explained by combined economic factors (output, population, oil prices, stock exchange). The findings further indicate that carbon emission is determined by energy policy (energy intensity, carbon intensity, relative costs of renewable energy). Our findings contribute to energy policy management, energy, and business cycle research to inspire novel research on energy cycles.
