  • Assessing the influence of supply chain collaboration value innovation, supply chain capability and competitive advantage in Taiwan's networking Communication Industry
International Journal of Production Economics, 2017
    Co-Authors: Shu-hsien Liao, Li-wen Ding
    Abstract:

Abstract Taiwan's networking Communication Industry has had a clustering scale and a good position for collaboration in the global networking Communication manufacturing network. This study considers whether Taiwan's networking Communication Industry can enhance its competitive advantage through supply chain management activities. In order to examine the relationships of supply chain collaboration value innovation, supply chain capability and competitive advantage, this research selects 74 firms and 465 questionnaires from the upstream, middle and downstream manufactures of Taiwan networking Communication Industry for research subjects, and uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to verify the theoretical model. Results show that the relationships among supply chain collaboration value innovation, supply chain capacity and competitive advantage can have a positive impact, and that supply chain capability is a full mediator. Moreover, supply chain echelons (upper, middle and downstream) have some moderating effects in these relationships.

  • the digital marketing skills gap
International Journal of Information Management, 2014
Co-Authors: Jo Royle, Audrey Frances Laing
    Abstract:

We explore digital marketing skills gaps in the Communication Industry. We find digital marketing skills gaps across the Communication Industry. The Industry needs best practice guidance.Blending digital skills with current marketing approaches is a key strategic challenge. We construct a Digital Marketer Model summarising core skills. Scholarly literature suggests digital marketing skills gaps in Industry, but these skills gaps are not clearly identified. The research aims to specify any digital marketing skills gaps encountered by professionals working in Communication industries. In-depth interviews were undertaken with 20 Communication Industry professionals. A focus group followed, testing the rigour of the data.We find that a lack of specific technical skills; a need for best practice guidance on evaluation metrics, and a lack of intelligent futureproofing for dynamic technological change and development are skills gaps currently challenging the Communication Industry. However, the challenge of integrating digital marketing approaches with established marketing practice emerges as the key skills gap.Emerging from the key findings, a Digital Marketer Model was developed, highlighting the key competencies and skills needed by an excellent digital marketer. The research concludes that guidance on best practice, focusing upon evaluation metrics, futureproofing and strategic integration, needs to be developed for the Communication Industry. The Digital Marketing Model should be subject to further testing in Industry and academia. Suggestions for further research are discussed.

  • electronic publishing of professional articles attitudes of academics and implications for the scholarly Communication Industry
Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology, 1994
    Co-Authors: Don Schauder
    Abstract:

The study sought to answer the question, “What contribution, if any, can the publishing of professional articles in electronic form make to scholarly and research Communication?” The professional article, arguably more than any other form of research Communication, is seen as fundamental to the Western system of scholarship. A state-of-the-art review, and a survey of academics in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States covered the following themes: origins of professional articles; state of the printed journal; electronic publishing—pioneering research and development; publishing via commercial database hosts; publishing via the Internet and related academic networks; publishing via portable electronic media; tensions in document supply and interlending; academics as authors and readers of professional articles, and universities as publishers. Responses of 582 academics in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States to a survey in the second half of 1992 enabled an assessment of the position of academics in relation to electronic publishing. Evidence was interpreted through two complementary theoretical perspectives which allowed electronic publishing to be viewed (a) as a process of technologically induced structural change across an Industry, and (b) as a means of increasing efficiency and gaining competitive advantage. It was concluded that the contribution of electronic publishing lies in greater diversity and choice in a marketplace where at-source-subsidized publishing competes with fee-for-service publishing. Recommendations are made for new relationships among academics, publishers, libraries, and universities. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
