  • effectiveness of Communication Skill training on cancer truth telling for advanced practice nurses in taiwan a pilot study
    Psycho-oncology, 2021
Co-Authors: Shihhsiang Chen, Shihying Chen, Shuchun Yang, Rongnan Chien, Suehsien Chen, Tsueiping Chu, Maiko Fujimori
    Abstract:

Objective Advanced practice nurses (APNs) can best support physicians in improving the quality of truth-telling. However, the effectiveness of Communication Skill training (CST), based on the Japanese SHARE model exclusive to APNs, has not been tested from APNs' and recipients' viewpoints, motivating the author to conduct the present study. Methods A two group before-after model design was adopted, and 61 APNs from two hospitals were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (N=28) or control group (N=33). APNs in the experimental group received six hours of CST under the guidance of qualified facilitators and simulated patients (SP). This study used APNs' subjective assessment (N=61) (self-confidence and perceptions on truth-telling) and recipients' opinions (N=480) (cancer patients' and their caregivers' satisfaction with truth-telling and emotional status) to assess the effectiveness of the SHARE CST. Data were collected before CST (baseline, T0), immediately after (T1), and two weeks after (T2). Results APNs in the experimental group had more confidence (p .05). In addition, patients in the experimental group had higher depression than patients in the control group (β=1.65, P=.01). Conclusions SHARE CST can improve APNs' confidence and perceptions of cancer truth-telling. However, more rigorous studies are required to test the effectiveness of CST from recipients' viewpoint. • current status and future direction of Communication Skill training program
    Annals of Oncology, 2012
    Co-Authors: Kaoru Kubota
    Abstract:

ABSTRACT Current Communication Skill training utilizes role-playing with ‘bad news telling’ protocol, and significant improvement in clinician's self-efficacy has been reported. Recent randomized trial clearly demonstrated that early palliative care integrated with standard oncologic care improves the outcomes of patients with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer compared with standard oncologic care alone (Temel et al. N Engl J Med 2010; 363: 733–742). In the study, the palliative care team paid specific attention to assessing physical and psychosocial symptoms control, establishing goals of care, assisting with decision-making regarding treatment, and coordinating care on the basis of the individual needs of the patient. As a result, more patients assigned to early palliative care had an accurate assessment of their prognosis over time. Patients receiving early palliative care who reported an accurate perception of their prognosis were less likely to receive intravenous chemotherapy near the end of life. These findings are strong evidence that quality of oncologic care depend on patients' perception of the disease and prognosis, physical, and psychosocial symptoms control. Because several options are available in the current oncologic care, optimum decision-making is critically important. Future Communication Skill training challenges include discussing prognosis, assisting with decision-making and working as a multidisciplinary team. More medical oncologists should participate as facilitator in Communication Skill training program.

  • effectiveness of pogil learning model with ethnomathematics nuance assisted by student worksheet toward student mathematical Communication Skill
Unnes Journal of Mathematics Education, 2017
Co-Authors: Hilyatin Farda, Zaenuri Zaenuri, Sugiarto Sugiarto
    Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to analyzing the effectiveness of POGIL model learning with ethnomathematics nuance by using student worksheets towards student’s mathematical Communication ability in quadraliteral materialand. The population in this research was the students of seventh grade Junior High School 1 Welahan on year 2016/2017. By using simple random sampling, the selected samples were VII-A as control class with PBL model learning and VII-B as experiment class with POGIL model learning with nuance ethnomathematics by using student worksheet. The methods which have been used to collect data were documentation, test, and questionnaire. Data were analyzed using proportion test, independent samples t-test, and linear regression. The result of research showed that (1) Student’s mathematical Communication ability which have studied with POGIL model learning with ethnomathematics nuance by using student worksheets reach the minimum score criteria, (2) The average of student’s mathematical Communication ability by implementing POGIL model learning with ethnomathematics nuance by using student worksheets better than the average of student’s mathematical Communication ability by implementing PBL model learning, (3) Respect to local culture attitude influenced toward mathematical Communication ability with the number 55,5%.

  • effect of the Communication Skill training of mothers using multimedia on the anxiety levels of primary school students
    Psychology, 2014
Co-Authors: Ashraf Mohamadi, Zahra Hajiamini, Abbas Ebadi, Ali Fathiashtiani, Matin Aliasgari, Afsane Mohamadi
    Abstract:

Anxiety disorders are among the most common psychological disorders in children. Considering the effects of the relationship between parents (especially mothers) and children on the mental health of children, we conducted this study to evaluate the effect of Communication Skills training of mothers by multimedia software. This clinical trial was conducted on 109 first-grade students in one of the zones in Tehran. For data collection, we used the School Anxiety Scale—Teacher Report and the Queendom Communication Skill Test to assess mothers’ Communication Skills. Students’ anxiety levels and mothers’ Communication Skills were assessed (in both groups before and after of intervention). Then students were randomly assigned to two groups: case and control. The case group received multimedia CD for Communication Skills training during 2 months. The total prevalence rate of anxiety in students before intervention was 16.1%. It significantly decreased in the multimedia group after intervention (P P
