    Abstract:

    Comparative Evaluation of the semiautomated COBAS AMPLICOR hepatitis B virus (HBV) MONITOR Test (COBAS-HBV) and manual AMPLICOR HBV MONITOR Test (AMPLICOR-HBV) on 208 serum samples revealed no significant difference in the sensitivities of the two assays. Twenty samples tested HBV DNA negative and 183 samples tested HBV DNA positive by both assays. Three samples tested positive by COBAS-HBV only and two samples tested positive by AMPLICOR-HBV only. HBV DNA concentrations determined by the two assays were significantly related (n = 183, r = 0.97, P < 0.0001), which indicates that COBAS-HBV could replace AMPLICOR-HBV. The major inconvenience of COBAS-HBV is the required performance of appropriate predilutions of high-titer samples in order to extend the narrow dynamic range of the assay.

    Abstract: The studied were carried out for the Comparative Evaluation of physiochemical and GCMS analysis of sour and sweet oranges peel oil of Pakistan. The physiochemical analysis of sour oranges were shown that moisture (%), density, iodine value (g/100g), saponification value (mg/g), peroxide value (mg eq/kg), free fatty acid value (%) 0.34 ±0.22, 0.92 ± 0.16, 100 ± 0.44 , 171 ± 0.32 , 35.2 ± 0.12 and 5.8 ± 0.31 respectively, while similarly the sweet oranges peels physiochemical analysis value were 0.42 ± 0.15 moisture (%), 0.94 ± 0.13 density, 103 ± 0.54 iodine value (g/100g), saponification value (mg/g), peroxide value (mg eq/kg) and free fatty acid value (%) were 183 ± 0.11 , 13.5 ± 0.17 and 2.3 ± 0.16 respectively. GC-MS analysis of sour orange and sweet orange peels oil were also calculated. The results of the present study demonstrated that the seeds of citrus species investigated are a potential source of valuable oil which might be utilized for edible and other industrial applications

    Many antimicrobial technologies are available for textiles. They may be used in many different textile applications to prevent the growth of microorganisms. Due to the biological activity of the antimicrobial compounds, the assessment of the safety of these substances is an ongoing subject of research and regulatory scrutiny. This review aims to give an overview on the main compounds used today for antimicrobial textile functionalization. Based on an Evaluation of scientific publications, market data as well as regulatory documents, the potential effects of antimicrobials on the environment and on human health were considered and also life cycle perspectives were taken into account. The characteristics of each compound were summarized according to technical, environmental and human health criteria. Triclosan, silane quaternary ammonium compounds, zinc pyrithione and silver-based compounds are the main antimicrobials used in textiles. The synthetic organic compounds dominate the antimicrobials market on a weight basis. On the technical side the application rates of the antimicrobials used to functionalize a textile product are an important parameter with treatments requiring lower dosage rates offering clear benefits in terms of less active substance required to achieve the functionality. The durability of the antimicrobial treatment has a strong influence on the potential for release and subsequent environmental effects. In terms of environmental criteria, all compounds were rated similarly in effective removal in wastewater treatment processes. The extent of published information about environmental behavior for each compound varies, limiting the possibility for an in-depth comparison of all textile-relevant parameters across the antimicrobials. Nevertheless the Comparative Evaluation showed that each antimicrobial technology has specific risks and benefits that should be taken into account in evaluating the suitability of different antimicrobial products. The results also indicated that nanoscale silver and silver salts that achieve functionality with very low application rates offer clear potential benefits for textile use. The regular care of textiles consumes lots of resources (e.g. water, energy, chemicals) and antimicrobial treatments can play a role in reducing the frequency and/or intensity of laundering which can give potential for significant resource savings and associated impact on the environment

    Abstract:

    Background. In our previous study (message 1), a Comparative Evaluation on the efficacy of two uricodepressants, allopurinol and febuxostat, was performed in terms of their effect on the functional state of the kidneys in patients with gouty nephropathy, and the advantage of the latter was established. The purpose of this study: a Comparative Evaluation of allopurinol and febuxostat effects on the manifestations of experimental gouty nephropathy. Materials and methods. The experiment was performed on 70 white male nonlinear rats. The animals were once injected with Freund’s complete adjuvant with splenic deoxyribonucleic acid of bovine animals and were subsequently kept on a daily diet consisted of autolyzed yeast with ammonium molybdate and inosine, and a sterile suspension of uric acid was injected into their abdominal cavities every 10 days. After 20 days, the rats were divided into 3 groups: group 1, with allopurinol added to daily nutrition; group 2 received febuxostat; group 3, which had not been treated with uricodepressants. The rats were sacrificed under inhalation ether and intraperitoneal nembutal anesthesia. The kidney tissues were examined by means of the light microscopy. Morphological preparations were stained: with hematoxylin and eosin, van Gieson’s and alcian blue, periodic ­acid-Schiff reaction was applied, the average index of the lesion of parti­cular renal structures was calculated. Results. In experimental gouty nephropathy, all kidney structures (glome­ruli, tubules, stroma, vessels) are damaged, the incidence and severity are associated with ongoing uricodepressive therapy; in addition, the xanthine oxidase inhibitor allopurinol and the xanthine oxidoreductase inhibitor febuxostat equally reduce the level of uricemia, but the effect of the former is more focused on tubulointerstitial changes, and the latter — on glomerular, followed by the inhibition of non-protein nitrogen products and medium-weight molecules in the blood. Conclusions. Taking into consideration the previous clinical study, the advantage of febuxostat over allopurinol in gouty nephro­pathy was established.

    Background. Renal damage is an almost constant symptom of gout, which determines the prognosis of the dise­ase. Hyperuricemia in gouty nephropathy belongs to independent risk factors for deterioration of the nitrogen and electrolyte excretory function of the kidneys. The purpose of the study was a Comparative Evaluation of the effect of uricodepressants allopurinol and febuxostat on the functional state of the kidneys in patients with gout. Materials and methods. Seventy three patients with primary gout (men with an average age of 49 years and disease duration of 10 years) were examined. The chronic form of arthritis was diagnosed in 71 % of cases, the intermittent one — in 29 %, peripheral tofi were detected in 53 % of patients. Chronic kidney disease stage I, II, III and IV was diagnosed at a ratio of 56 : 12 : 2 : 1, latent, urolytic and proteinuric types of gouty nephropathy — in 53, 37, 10 % of cases, arterial hypertension — in 47 %. Hyperuricemia at the time of examination was found in 84 % of patients, hyperuricuria — in 52 %, metabolic, renal and mixed types of hyperuricemia occurred in 57; 3 and 40 % of cases, respectively. Results. Comparative Evaluation of allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor, and febuxostat, a xanthine oxidoreductase inhibitor, in terms of kidney function in patients with gouty nephropathy, showed that the latter should be preferred, although the hypouricemic effect of both uricodepressants is approximately the same, and the initial indices of viscoelasticity of urine and β2-microglobulinuria are prognostic criteria for the efficacy of allopurinol and febuxostat therapy, respectively. Conclusions. In the future, it will be useful to determine the morphological changes in the kidneys in experimental gouty nephropathy under the influence of allopurinol and febuxostat, and it is also advisable to evaluate the results of combined use of uricodepressants with other groups of hy­pouricemic agents (uricosuric drugs, pegloticase enzyme, etc.)
