  • Students' preferences for university: A Conjoint Analysis
International Journal of Educational Management, 2002
    Co-Authors: Geoffrey N Soutar, Julia P. Turner
    Abstract:

Tertiary education has become more competitive in recent years due to reductions in government funding and higher student fees. As the nature of the environment grows more competitive, the role of marketing, previously non-existent in most universities, has grown significantly. One of the key pieces of information that would assist a universitys marketing effort is an understanding of what determines a students university preference. Examines university preference using a form of Conjoint Analysis, known as adaptive Conjoint Analysis (ACA), to investigate the importance of a number of attributes to high-school leavers in Australia. Results indicate that the four most important determinants of university preference were course suitability, academic reputation, job prospects, and teaching quality, which has significance for education managers developing marketing strategies and programs.

  • The Use of Conjoint Analysis to Study Patient Satisfaction
Evaluation & the health professions, 1999
Co-Authors: Fred W. Markham, James J. Diamond, Christian L. Hermansen
    Abstract:

Previous research has identified aspects of the outpatient interactions between patients and physicians that are important for patient satisfaction. In this study, Conjoint Analysis was used to determine the relative importance of these factors to patients. This study found the perceived skill of the physician to be the most important factor and waiting time in the office the least important. The use of Conjoint Analysis should help both patients and physicians to maximize patient satisfaction while minimizing costs as much as possible.
