  • Business Continuity Planning and Supply Chain Management
    2007
    Co-Authors: Morad Benyoucef, Samer Forzley
    Abstract:

Business Continuity Planning (BCP) has evolved significantly and gained acceptance since the events of September 11, 2001. It is defined in the literature as an integrated set of formalized procedures used by an organization to recover from events that disrupt business operations. These procedures call for vertical and horizontal integration of all functional groups within the organization as well as with all external groups that interact with it. Information technology (IT) plays a central role in that integration. This paper reviews and discusses the current state of business Continuity Planning as it applies to the supply chain and points to the efforts undertaken by business and government to mitigate the risks of supply chain disruptions. The organization’s supply chain Continuity Plan must extend to all supply chain participants, as illustrated by real-life examples. The most advanced business Continuity Planning requires equally advanced IT tools to increase visibility both inside and outside the o...

  • ER Workshops - Goal-oriented requirement engineering support for business Continuity Planning
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2015
Co-Authors: Alvaro E. Arenas, Philippe Massonet, Christophe Ponsard, Benjamin Aziz
    Abstract:

Business Continuity is a key management process that aims to maintain and rapidly recover an organizations key business functions in the face of serious incidents. The resulting business Continuity Plan must identify the key business functions that must be resilient, define recovery of critical business functions and define contingency measures when recovery is not possible. This paper argues that the process of business Continuity Planning can be efficiently supported by a goal-oriented requirements engineering approach. The main benefits of a modelling approach include taking a holistic approach when analysing the organisation, providing quality checks and related guidance across in all the elaboration phases, an supporting the generation of the Continuity Plan from a business Continuity model.

=================================================================================================== Every organization has a business process that must be maintained sustainably, in order to maintain business Continuity of the distortion caused by the risk organization, needed a Plan that contains procedures and strategies that can reduce the risk. • performance analysis and evaluation of desiccant air handling unit under various operation condition through measurement and simulation in hot and humid climate
    Energy and Buildings, 2018
Co-Authors: Makiko Ukai, Hiroaki Tanaka, Hideki Tanaka, Masaya Okumiya
    Abstract:

Abstract In hot and humid climate such as in Japan and south east Asia, dehumidification in summer is really important for air conditioning. Temperature and humidity independent control (THIC) of air conditioning system can handle sensible heat and latent heat separately, and provide good indoor environment and achieve energy conservation. Desiccant air handling unit is one of the major solution for THIC of air conditioning system. It needs hot water to regenerate sorbent which absorbs moist in the air. Combined heat and power can supply hot water at almost constant temperature for desiccant air handling system and also contribute to the business Continuity Plan of commercial buildings. However, there are still uncertainties about the factors which affect energy performance of desiccant air handling unit and the optimum design and operations in hot and humid climate. The objectives of this paper are to prove factors which affect energy performance of desiccant air handling unit by measurement analysis and show optimum condition of the desiccant air handling unit under various room conditions by simulation. Measurement analysis shows that energy performance of desiccant air handling unit depends not only on the inlet air condition to dehumidification wheel but also on designed supply air humidity. Furthermore, simulation results show the optimum inlet air condition entering dehumidification wheel under various supply air absolute humidity which is determined by design room conditions. These results provide useful information of desiccant air handling unit during design and operation phase of buildings in hot and humid climate.

  • the risk management profession in australia business Continuity Plan practices
    2017
Co-Authors: Adela Mcmurray, Jean Cross, Carlo Caponecchia
    Abstract:

This study aimed to identify to what extent Australian organizations have any Plans to manage business Continuity threats, and the nature and content of these Plans. Sixty-four respondents who were risk management professionals were surveyed to explore the Business Continuity Practices within their organizations. The ANOVA analysis showed 39 per cent of the organizations had developed an enterprise-wide Plan of which just over half stated that the Plan was tested. However, 36 per cent of respondents had no Plan, an informal Plan, were developing a Plan, or did not know whether they had a Plan. Standardized guidelines for a process to manage risks have been developed across many spheres and countries and are brought together in the international risk management standard ISO31000 (ISO, 2009), which presents a process applicable to all organizations and all risks. Human resource practices that promote consistent communication and an organizational culture that allows business Continuity Plan values, attitudes and beliefs to become embedded and to move across traditional organizational boundaries are therefore important for gaining the cooperation needed to implement Plans in an organizations operational areas pertaining to business Continuity.
