  • adequacy of the tensile elongation test as a quality Control Criterion for vehicle tires
    Polymer Testing, 2006
    Co-Authors: Nedal T. Ratrout, Isam A. Mahmoud
    Abstract:

Most tire failures in Saudi Arabia result in severe vehicle crashes. Tire failures, such as tread separation and blowouts, are the most notable events that occur on a daily basis. This paper deals with the elongation and tensile strength of the tire rubber as quality Control criteria in evaluating vehicle tires. Specimens from six different tire brands were subjected to laboratory tests to investigate the tensile strength and elongation of the tire rubber. The laboratory results and the statistical field survey data were compared to determine the possibility of using the tensile strength of rubber as a quality Control Criterion. The thermal oxidative durability of the investigated tires during aging were also estimated through the loss in their strength.

  • active vibration isolation of machinery and sensitive equipment using h Control Criterion and particle swarm optimization method
    Meccanica, 2012
Co-Authors: Anoshirvan Farshidianfar, Amin Saghafi, S M Kalami, I Saghafi
    Abstract:

Isolating the sensitive equipment from vibrating base or the foundation from machinery vibration is of practical importance in a number of engineering fields. With the development of the vibration Control techniques and increasing requirements for the higher-performance vibration isolation in industry and everyday life, active vibration isolation exhibits the best performances. In this paper, active vibration isolation reducing vibration transmitted from vibrating base to sensitive equipment and from machinery to foundation was investigated. Controller as static output feedback was considered to design components of active isolation system. An active Control is provided by using H ∞ Control criteria to design this Controller. This Criterion is presented as a cost function and then optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The approach is validated using numerical simulation. Results show that this static output feedback H ∞ Controller using PSO algorithm can get good performance to reduce the effect of unwanted vibration and disturbances.

  • evaluation of feed cod sulfate ratio as a Control Criterion for the biological hydrogen sulfide production and lead precipitation
    Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2008
Co-Authors: Antonio Velasco, Martha Ramírez, Tania Volkesepulveda, Armando Gonzalezsanchez, Sergio Revah
    Abstract:

The ability of sulfate-reducing bacteria to produce hydrogen sulfide and the high affinity of sulfide to react with divalent metallic cations represent an excellent option to remove heavy metals from wastewater. Different parameters have been proposed to Control the hydrogen sulfide production by anaerobic bacteria, such as the organic and sulfate loading rates and the feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio. This work relates the feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio with the hydrogen sulfide production and dissolved lead precipitation, using ethanol as carbon and energy source in an up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor. A maximum dissolved sulfide concentration of 470+/-7 mg S/L was obtained at a feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio of 2.5, with sulfate and ethanol conversions of approximately 94 and 87%, respectively. The lowest dissolved sulfide concentration (145+/-10 mg S/L) was observed with a feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio of 0.67. Substantial amounts of acetate (510-1730 mg/L) were produced and accumulated in the bioreactor from ethanol oxidation. Although only incomplete oxidation of ethanol to acetate was observed, the consortium was able to remove 99% of the dissolved lead (200 mg/L) with a feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio of 1.5. It was found that the feed COD/SO4(2-) ratio could be an adequate parameter to Control the hydrogen sulfide production and the consequent precipitation of dissolved lead.
