The research has conducted in May and June 2012 in the Laboratory of Animal Feed Technology and Feed Science Laboratory, Department of Nutrition and Food Animals, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University, Semarang. The material used in this study was the buffalo rumen contents, rice Straw and Corn Straw. Research tools included: chopper, trays, plastic, scales, knives, pH meter, thermometer, label paper, tissue and apparatus for fiber analysis. Research used completely randomize design (CRD) 4x3 factorial with 3 replications. A factor is a combination of rice Straw and Corn are 100% 0% rice Straw with Corn Straw (P), 50% rice Straw with 50% Corn Straw (PJ), 0% to 100% rice Straw Corn Straw (J). Factor B is the addition of buffalo rumen contents, there are 4 levels of 0% (R0), 5% (R5), 10% (R10), 15% (R15) and R0 as the control is 0% waste fermentation. Parameters measured were changes in the levels of fiber components NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber) and ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber). The data was statistically processed by analysis of the range and if there is a significant effect of treatment was continued multiple regions Duncan test at 5% level. Results of the study showed a decrease in the levels of NDF and ADF in line with the increase in buffalo rumen contents. Lowest NDF levels obtained in 100% rice Straw combined with 0% Corn Straw and given by buffalo rumen contents of 15%. The lowest ADF levels obtained in combination with rice Straw 0% combined with 100% Corn Straw and given by buffalo rumen contents 15%. Faktor A adalah kombinasi jerami padi dan jagung yaitu 100% jerami padi dengan 0% jerami jagung (P), 50% jerami padi dengan 50% jerami jagung (PJ), 0% jerami padi dengan 100% jerami jagung (J). Faktor B adalah penambahan isi rumen kerbau terdapat 4 level yaitu 0% (R0), 5% (R5), 10% (R10), 15% (R15) dan R0 sebagai kontrol adalah limbah fermentasi 0%. Parameter yang diamati adalah perubahan komponen serat yaitu kadar NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber) dan ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber). Data diolah secara statistik dengan analisis ragam dan jika terdapat pengaruh perlakuan yang nyata dilanjutkan uji wilayah ganda Duncan pada taraf 5%. Berdasarkan dari hasil penelitian menunjukkan penurunan terhadap kadar NDF dan ADF seiring dengan bertambahnya aras isi rumen kerbau. Kadar NDF terendah diperoleh pada kombinasi jerami padi 100% dengan jerami jagung 0% dan pemberian isi rumen kerbau 15%. Measurement and kinetics of elemental and atomic potassium release from a burning biomass pellet
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2019Co-Authors: Yingzu Liu, Zhihua Wang, Jun Xia, Luc Vervisch, Kaidi Wan, Ronald Whiddon, Hamid Bahai, Kefa CenAbstract:Combining polarizing-filtered planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) with simultaneous laser absorption, quantitative laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and two-color pyrometry, the potassium release during the combustion of biomass fuels (Corn Straw and poplar) has been investigated. The temporal release profiles of volatile atomic potassium and potassium compounds from a Corn Straw show a single peak. The woody biomass, poplar, produces a dual-maxima distribution for potassium and potassium compounds. For both biomass samples, the highest concentrations of released atomic potassium and potassium compounds occur in the devolatilization stage. The mass ratios between volatile atomic potassium and potassium compounds in the Corn Straw and poplar cases are 0.77% and 0.79%, respectively. These values agree well with chemical equilibrium predictions that 0.68% of total potassium will be in atomic form. A two-step kinetic model of potassium release has been developed, which gives better predictions during the devolatilization stage than the existing single-step model. Finally, a map of potassium transformation processes during combustion is developed. Starting with inorganic and organic potassium, there are eight proposed transformation pathways including five proposed release pathways that occur during the combustion. The pathways describe the transformation of potassium between the fuel volatile matter, char, and ash. Potassium release during the devolatilization stage is due to pyrolysis and evaporation; during the char burnout stage, potassium release is due to char oxidation and decomposition; and during the ash cooking stage, potassium release is caused by reactions between the ash and H2O in the co-flow.

Liang, Xuezhao Sun, Rongzhen ZhongAbstract:Infections with gastrointestinal nematodes (GIN) adversely affect meat color in lambs. Although white-rot fungi (WRF) pretreatment increases nutritional value and fiber digestion of Corn Straw for lambs, whether it can improve meat quality of lambs infected with GINs is unknown. The objective of this experiment was to study effects of feeding WRF-pretreated Corn Straw on the health and meat quality of lambs infected with GINs. Sixteen healthy Ujumqin lambs were orally drenched with 3rd-stage GINs larvae and randomly divided into two dietary treatments of control (CON) and WRF diets for 70 days of feeding. Results showed that feeding WRF-pretreated Corn Straw decreased L* and b* values (p < 0.05) and increased a* value (p < 0.01) of both longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) and semimembranosus (SM) muscles of lambs infected with GINs. Feeding WRF-pretreatment Corn Straw decreased fecal egg count (p = 0.014) and increased packed cell volume (p = 0.013) of lambs from 28 d of feeding and increased plasma iron content (p = 0.008) of lambs from 56 d of the feeding. Feeding WRF-pretreatment Corn Straw decreased myosin heavy-chain (MyHC)-I (p = 0.032) and MyHC-IIα (p = 0.025) content in LTL muscle and MyHC-I (p = 0.022) and MyHC-IIβ (p = 0.048) in SM muscle of lambs. In conclusion, although there were no significant changes in the content of most amino acids or increased intensity of better flavor compounds, meat quality and health of lambs infected with GINs was significantly improved by feeding WRF-pretreated Corn Straw due to increased PCV and meat color and tenderness.

All fungi significantly decreased lignin, with optimal reductions after 28 d. Although cellulose also decreased, L. edodes and P. eryngii minimized these losses.
