METHODS The prospective, randomized, consecutive, comparative cohort study consecutively recruited Chinese age-related cataract patients, CAPPS and CPS were performed by a seasoned surgeon. Postoperative follow-up was at 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year, and the outcome measures comprised ultrasound power, effective phacoemulsification time (EPT), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), endothelial cell density (ECD), Corneal endothelium loss rate (ECL), central Corneal thickness (CCT), and intraoperative and postoperative complications. RESULTS Patients in both groups gained a better CDVA postoperatively. The ultrasound power and EPT in the CAPPS group were lower than the CPS group (P < .001). ECD value decreased at each follow-up visit and did not return to the preoperative level; CPS resulted in greater endothelial cell loss than CAPPS did, which was significant. CCT increased immediately after the surgery, and decreased thereafter. The mean CCT values returned to preoperative levels at 3 months after surgery in the CAPPS group while it took 6 months in the CPS group. The differences in Cornea Edema and anterior chamber flare between the 2 groups were not significant at 1 day postoperatively (P = .070 and .094, respectively), while at the 1-week time point, the differences were statistically significant (P = .002 and .001, respectively). CONCLUSION CAPPS appears to be an excellent method for treating hard nucleus cataract.

Journal of Medical Science in Central South China, 2011Co-Authors: Xiao QiguoAbstract:Objective To compare the effect and safety of using Tobredex eye drops to Tobredex eye drops combining Tobredex eye ointment after Phacoemulsification.Methods 80 eyes were included.Patients were randomly divided into using Tobredex eye drops group(A group) and Tobredex eye drops combining Tobredex eye ointment group(B gronp). The Tobredex eye drops group treated by dropping Tobredex eye drops six times a day in total three days,four times a day in total four days,three times a day in total one week,and two times a day in total one week.The Tobredex eye drops combining Tobredex eye ointment group alter dropping eye drops before going to bed to applying eye ointment.The symptoms(including foreign body sensation,astringent sensation,ache,fearing light,tears,secretion) and the signs(including vision, conjunctiva hyperemia,Cornea Edema,keratic precipitates,aqueous flare,anterior chamber exudant) were observed on the 2 nd,3 rd,7 th,14 th,and 21 st day after use of eye drops.The Cornea fluorescence staining and intraocular pressure were measured on the 1st,2nd,and 3 rd Week after use of eye drops.Results In A and B group,the symptoms such as foreign body sensation,ache,fearing light,tears alleviated gradually within 3 weeks.The signs including conjunctiva hyperemia,Cornea Edema,aqueous flare reduced gradually within 1 week,then these signs become stable.The vision of the 3 rd day after operation was better than one of the 1st day.The Cornea fluorescence staining of the 3 rd week after operation was more severe compared to one of the 1st or 2nd week after operation.The foreign body sensation and ache of A group were more severe than one of B group at the 2nd,3 rd day,and the 1st week after operation.The Cornea Edema and aqueous flare of A group were decreased significandy compared to B group.No significant difference was found about other symptoms and signs at other time point.Conclusions Tobredex Eye Drops and Tobredex eye ointment union use after operation of cataract Phacoemulsification can more rapidly eliminate the inflammation and improve the symptom.
