  • Assessing the value Creation Process of e‐business along the supply chain
Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, 2011
Co-Authors: Frank Wiengarten, Brian Fynes, Paul Humphreys, Roberto Chavez, Alan Mckittrick
    Abstract:

Purpose – This paper seeks to report the results of an empirical study examining the value Creation Process of e‐business (EB) applications from a supply chain perspective.Design/methodology/approach – A questionnaire was sent to procurement managers located in the German automotive supply chain. Interaction effects were examined through regression analyses to illustrate the moderating role of the suppliers' EB readiness in the value Creation Process throughout the supply chain.Findings – Based on the resource‐based view (RBV) and previous research this study illustrates that EB applications (i.e. EB interaction applications, EB coordination applications and EB integration applications) have a significantly stronger positive impact on operational performance when a company's key suppliers are ready and willing to engage in EB (suppliers' EB readiness).Originality/value – Although research on the performance impact and business value of EB applications has advanced over the past years, there is still a sca...

  • A unified model of the co-Creation Process
    Expert Systems With Applications, 2014
Co-Authors: Christopher Durugbo, Kulwant S Pawar
    Abstract:

Co-Creation is a pro-active strategy for enabling firms to create value through co-opting consumer competences. Several studies have conceptualised factors for characterizing the co-Creation Process. A few propose methodologies for co-Creation. However, only a handful have so far analysed co-Creation in a manner that emphasises the role of existing value or formalised the co-Creation Process with a view to adding rigour to research/practice and providing insights into activities - leading to increased success of co-Creation. This article proposes a unified model for co-Creation that integrates functions for strategising supplier-consumer involvement based on existing value-in-exchange and value-in-use and for selecting co-Creation techniques. A step-by-step approach to using the unified model is then presented and applied through two collaborative projects within a semiconductor company. The article concludes by discussing the implications of the model for research and practice.

  • Visualising the co-Creation Process
2012 18th International ICE Conference on Engineering Technology and Innovation, 2012
Co-Authors: Christopher Durugbo, Kulwant S Pawar
    Abstract:

In this paper, a network-based diagrammatic approach for visualising the co-Creation Process is proposed. The approach centres on the use of three main primitives to depict the different forms of involvement and techniques for co-Creation. The approach was evaluated through the visualisation of three co-Creation methodologies from literature. The paper concludes with a discussion on the applications of the approach for researchers/practitioners and makes recommendations for future research on methodologies for co-Creation.

  • The knowledge Creation Process and model within NPD teams
2005 IEEE International Technology Management Conference (ICE), 2005
Co-Authors: Melis Sakiroglu, Johann Riedel, Kulwant S Pawar
    Abstract:

This paper reports on the findings from an empirical study of the knowledge Creation Process within product development teams. Previous writings on knowledge, information, creativity, etc have been dominated by definitional discussions, prescriptive models, and debates about the social basis of knowledge, etc. A large proportion of research has focused on technological means, in particular ICT, to provide the means for sharing information - in the hope to promote knowledge and knowledge Creation. The seminal work of Takeuchi & Nonaka (1995) introduced the notion of explicit and implicit knowledge, coupled with the SECI cycle, in which implicit knowledge embodied within an individual is made explicit and socialized into the organization. The investigation reported here develops and applies a new methodology for the investigation of the activities of new product development teams to develop an in-depth understanding of the knowledge Creation Process. A model of this Process is presented and fully described with examples taken from an empirical study.

  • Entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance: The role of knowledge Creation Process
    Industrial Marketing Management, 2009
    Co-Authors: Jing-wen Huang, Ming-tien Tsai
    Abstract:

Abstract This study examines the relationships among entrepreneurial orientation, knowledge Creation Process, and firm performance using survey data from 165 entrepreneurs. We use LISREL analysis to test the direct and indirect effects of the entrepreneurial orientation on firm performance. Knowledge Creation Process – operationalized to reflect the dimensions of socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization – is used as the mediating variable for explaining the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and firm performance. The results indicate that the significance of the direct effect of entrepreneurial orientation on firm performance is reduced when the indirect effect of entrepreneurial orientation through knowledge Creation Process is included in a total effect model. Consequently, entrepreneurial orientation is positively related to firm performance, and knowledge Creation Process plays a mediating role in this relationship.

  • Knowledge Creation Process in new venture strategy and performance
    Journal of Business Research, 2007
    Co-Authors: Ming-tien Tsai
    Abstract:

Abstract Building from Nonaka's theory of knowledge Creation, this study examines the role of knowledge Creation Process in the relationship between new venture strategy and firm performance. Using data from 165 firms in Taiwan's new ventures, knowledge Creation Processes, including socialization, externalization, combination, and internalization mediate the new venture strategy-performance relationship. The results suggest the need for consideration of knowledge Creation Process as a mediator in the relationship between new venture strategy and firm performance.

  • Knowledge Science: Modeling the Knowledge Creation Process - Knowledge science - modeling the knowledge Creation Process
Lecture Notes in Computer Science, 2011
    Co-Authors: Yoshiteru Nakamori
    Abstract:

Knowledge science is a problem-oriented interdisciplinary field that takes as its subject the modeling of the knowledge Creation Process and its application, and carries out research in such disciplines as knowledge management, management of technology, support for the discovery, synthesis and Creation of knowledge, and innovation theory with the aim of constructing a better knowledge-based society. This presentation considers what knowledge science should be, introducing a forthcoming book entitled "Knowledge Science - Modeling the Knowledge Creation Process" (Nakamori [1]) as well as the School of Knowledge Science at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, which is the first school established in the world to make knowledge a target of science. The first dean of the School was Professor Ikujiro Nonaka who is famous worldwide for his organizational knowledge Creation model called the SECI spiral (Nonaka and Takeuchi [3]), which is in fact the key factor in establishing the School. The presentation also briefly introduces a methodology for knowledge synthesis called the theory of knowledge construction systems; its fundamental part was already published in Systems Research and Behavioral Science (Nakamori et al. [2]).
