ICWS - Declarative Constraint Framework for SOA Deployment and Configuration
2008 IEEE International Conference on Web Services, 2008Co-Authors: Ying Li, Ying ChenAbstract:A generalized declarative constraint framework is proposed in this paper to address challenges of applying constraints to model-driven SOA Deployment and configuration. By representing Deployment metamodel and domain knowledge as patterns, constraints can be easily described, automatically validated and analyzed. This framework reduces the human-intensiveness and error-proneness in the activity of applying constraints to a SOA Deployment topology. We implemented this framework over a model-driven SOA Deployment Platform leveraging OCL as the declarative constraint language, and verified it in industry Deployment scenarios.

ETFA - Virtual execution environment for real-time TDL components
2007 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies & Factory Automation (EFTA 2007), 2007Co-Authors: Claudiu Farcas, Wolfgang PreeAbstract:Existing embedded software development methodologies can hardly cope with Platform changes such as CPU upgrades, different RTOS or distributed systems. The timing definition language (TDL) enables the development of deterministic real-time components regardless of the Deployment Platform. The proposed virtual execution environment enables parallel execution and deterministic run-time composition of real-time TDL components with data dependencies. We focus on embedded code generation and the virtual machine that controls the execution of TDL components and their interaction patterns.

Towards Context-Aware Deployment and Reconfiguration
2013 Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructure for Collaborative Enterprises, 2013Co-Authors: Amir Hammami, Thierry Villemur, Tom GueroutAbstract:This paper describes issues related to context-aware Deployment and reconfiguration of services within networked nodes. A Deployment Platform has been designed and implemented on top of a peer-to-peer layer to carry on the whole Deployment process. The Platform is mainly composed of P2P communication facilities such as: announcements, search and retrieval of services. These facilities are analyzed and evaluated according to local and LAN experimentations. Results show the efficiency and the effectiveness of our approach.

evaluation of uavs as an underwater acoustics sensor Deployment Platform
International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2017Co-Authors: Steven D Lloyd, Paul A Lepper, S C PomeroyAbstract:Marine surveys carried out by Passive Acoustic Monitors conventionally use towed hydrophone arrays, which requires dedicated surface observation boats. This is a costly and slow process, which could be made cheaper and quicker by using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs. Presented in this paper are the initial findings from using UAVs to capture underwater acoustic signals from an acoustic test tank.

Energy-Efficient Transmission Based on Compressive Sensing in WSN
2017 IEEE Wireless Communications and Networking Conference (WCNC), 2017Co-Authors: Hao Yang, Keming Tang, Hua Xu, Xiwei WangAbstract:Compressive Sampling(CS) has been currently utilized to save transmission consumption of sensors. In spite of the remarkable efforts the community put to a variety of designs, a vital question still remains unclear that whether the execution costs of sensors employing CS is not worth being considered, motivating us to explore the answer from a point of real Deployment Platform view. Presenting observations from our operating sensor network with 124 nodes deployed in the forest, we verify two important facts for energy consumption: 1) Different from previous literature, the cost of measure processing is not trivial. As the number of measurements increasing, it is a considerable percentage contrasted to transmission cost. 2) The value of measurement constantly changes along the routing, which may cause a cost jump in a specific location. Based on our findings from the system measurements, we propose an energy-efficient transmission approach based on CS. With our experiments, energy will be economized at least 15%. Our work gives a potential guideline for future designs in the field of the prolongation of lifetime of WSN.

An adaptable CS-based transmission scheme validated on the real-world system
2016 IEEE Conference on Computer Communications Workshops (INFOCOM WKSHPS), 2016Co-Authors: Hao Yang, Keming Tang, Hua Xu, Xiwei Wang, Kun QianAbstract:Compressive Sampling(CS) has been utilized to save transmission consumption of sensors. In spite of the remarkable efforts the community put to a variety of designs, a everlasting issue still remains that how sensors further economize energy through referring to their CS-based execution operations, motivating us to explore the answer from a point of real Deployment Platform view. In our work, we propose an adaptable CS-based transmission scheme, ACS, which is not mutually exclusive but forms a complementary unity with the traditional scheme. According to experimental validations on our real-world operating sensor network, energy of sensors will be economized at least 15% compared to the existing methods.
