    Firms introducing disruptive innovations into multisided ecosystems may confront the disruptor's dilemma – they must gain the support of the very incumbents they disrupt. We examine how these firms may address this dilemma through a longitudinal study of TiVo, a company that pioneered the Digital Video Recorder. Our analysis reveals how TiVo navigated co-opetitive tensions by continually adjusting its strategy, its technology platform, and its relational positioning within the evolving U.S. television industry ecosystem. We theorize how (a) disruption may affect not just specific incumbents, but also the entire ecosystem, (b) co-opetition is not just dyadic, but also multilateral and intertemporal, and (c) strategy is both a deliberative and emergent process involving continual adjustments, as the disruptor attempts to balance co-opetitive tensions over time

    Abstract:

    In this paper, a vision based vehicle speed warning system was proposed which has been implemented on the PAC Duo embedded platform. The system consisted of a vehicle Digital Video Recorder which used to capture the image in front of the vehicle, a hidden Markov model module to predict the next instant vehicle speed from the previous vehicle speeds, and a warning system to give the driver a warning signal when the predicted vehicle speed is larger than a predefined threshold value. The difficulty of the system is how to get the vehicle speed under the condition of without real vehicle speed provided. In this system, the vehicle speed provided for the hidden Markov model to predict the next instant vehicle speed is estimated from the images captured via the Digital Video Recorder. Two methods have been evaluated for estimating the vehicle speed. One is using feature matching method between the two contiguous images, the other is via the pre-calculating distance matching of each pixel of the image. The testing speed range is from 0 to 110 km/hr and the processing frame rate is 5 fps. The accuracy of the speed estimation is the feature matching method: iO 8%; and the other method: iO 12%.

    Abstract:

    The techniques of Digital image analysis, features detection, and Hidden Markov Model are employed to develop a vehicle speed prediction system, which used to find the trend of the speed changed. The proposed vehicle speed prediction model is used to set up a vehicle speeding early warning model. The proposed vehicle speed early warning system includes the vehicle speed computation and prediction model. All the data source of this study is obtained by the special design vehicular Digital Video Recorder device that includes well defined driving data format. The data of Digital Video Recorder, which represented the driving state data of the vehicle the speed is included, are analyzed to set up the speed computation and prediction model. The proposed approaches can closely match the vehicle speed and its concurrent Video frame. The results of this study can also provide other vehicular computer vision techniques to reduce the processing time along with vehicle's speed.

    A vehicular Digital Video Recorder system acts as the flight Recorder of a vehicle which used to record the behavior of a running vehicle. In this paper, a designed vehicular Digital Video Recorder system was reported. The hardware system was based on an embedded platform. The system also supports an online real-time navigator and an offline Video data viewer. To consider data security, the recorded Video data was water-marked to prevent tampered. The offline Video data viewer is used to play the recorded Video and display the recorded related vehicle's parameters accompanied with the Video which represented the instant status of the running vehicle. With the viewer system, it can be used to analysis the recorded data and find the facts for the status of the vehicle when a traffic accident occurred.

    This article explores the early stages of the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) market, with particular attention paid to brand leader TiVo. The television industry, which relies on schedules to organize the audience commodity, faces threats from DVR technology. Initially, broadcasters and advertisers reacted with fear, but also came to realize the potential of using the technology for data collection and target marketing. These firms employed a mix of investment and litigation to shape the developing industry. Simultaneously, TiVo characterized its relationship to broadcasters and advertisers as advantageous rather than contentious. As a result, the emerging DVR model offers users greater control through time-shifting and increased functionality with content playback, while presenting existing television firms with a platform for audience surveillance.

    To see one’s favourite TV show nowadays, one no longer needs to sit punctually in front of the screen at the hour specified in the TV schedule. Indeed, there are now numerous other options, such as pre-ordering the show via one’s mobile or the Internet to be viewed on IPTV (internet protocol television) at a convenient time, recording it on a Digital Video Recorder, webstreaming it from the Internet or downloading it to a mobile phone, iPod or similar portable device. Not only that, but one can also skip the often toolong commercial breaks or order previous, missed or particularly worth-seeing episodes of the show. To the casual observer, this wide range of options may seem like just another series of business tricks intended to lure customers into spending more money.
