    Background India9s Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act bans tobacco sales and advertisements within 100 yards of Educational Institutions. In school-adjacent neighbourhoods in Mumbai, we assessed adherence to these policies and whether tobacco vendor and advertisement densities were associated with students’ tobacco use. Methods High school students’ tobacco use was measured using a multistage cluster sampling survey (n=1533). Field geographic information systems data were obtained for all tobacco vendors and advertisements within 500 m of schools (n=26). Random-effects multilevel logistic regression was used to estimate associations of tobacco vendor and advertisement densities with ever tobacco use, current smokeless tobacco use and current tobacco use. Results There were 1741 tobacco vendors and 424 advertisements within 500 m of schools, with 221 vendors (13%) and 42 advertisements (10%) located within 100 m. School-adjacent tobacco vendor density within 100 m was not associated with the tobacco use outcomes, but tobacco advertisement density within 100 m was associated with all outcomes when comparing highest to lowest density tertiles: ever use (OR: 2.01; 95% CI 1.00 to 4.07), current use (2.23; 1.16, 4.28) and current smokeless tobacco use (2.01; 1.02, 3.98). Tobacco vendor density within 200, 300, 400 and 500 m of schools was associated with current tobacco use and current smokeless tobacco use, but not ever use. Conclusions The tobacco sales ban near Educational Institutions could be expanded beyond 100 m. Greater enforcement is needed regarding the current bans, particularly because advertisement density within 100 m of schools was associated with all students’ tobacco use outcomes.

    Objectives. To examine the institutional characteristics associated with the adoption of tobacco- and smoke-free policies among US postsecondary Educational Institutions.Methods. In 2017, we collected information on tobacco policy types and institutional characteristics of a national sample of US postsecondary Educational Institutions (n = 605) attended by the participants of the NEXT Generation Health Study. We used logistic regression to examine the relationships between these variables.Results. Overall, 35.2% of these Institutions adopted tobacco-free policies (i.e., prohibit all tobacco product use on campus), 10.1% had smoke-free policies (i.e., prohibit smoking but not other tobacco product use on campus), and 53.7% did not have tobacco- or smoke-free policies. Proprietary (privately owned, for-profit) Institutions (vs public Institutions) were the least likely to have tobacco- or smoke-free policies (P < .05), which were disproportionately attended by racial/ethnic minority students.     Abstract:

    The article describes the problem of preparing a modern teacher of mathematical disciplines for a higher technical Educational institution in the system of higher pedagogical and classical education. The modern scientific research focusing on training a highly-qualified mathematics teacher has been analyzed. The results of the questionnaire for mathematics teachers at higher technical education Institutions and students studying in 014 ‘Secondary Education (Mathematics)' specialties are presented. The current state of preparedness of master's degree holders to teach mathematicians at higher technical Educational Institutions is evaluated. One of the ways to solve the problem is to develop the ‘For Higher School Mathematics Teacher' Educational platform. The concept of developing this online environment and filling its components with content has been highlighted. The rationale for creating a community of practitioners consisting of teachers of higher technical and pedagogical Educational Institutions, the cooperation of which should contribute to solving the problem, is provided. The possibilities of using the platform for further training of both young and experienced teachers are considered.

    Abstract:

    This study investigates whether the mechanisms why education is rewarded vary across countries. Do Educational Institutions affect the likelihood that support for a particular mechanism is found? Combining IALS survey data and OECD statistics on Educational Institutions, it was shown that the effect of measured skill on earnings – controlled for Educational attainment – is lower in countries where Educational Institutions produce skills relevant for work through the vocational system. This indicates that the human capital perspective on education works particularly well in vocationally oriented Educational systems, as the skills generated in education are strongly overlapping with the skills that are rewarded. An alternative mechanism sees education as a means for social closure through credentialization. Under the credentialization model, education is not primarily rewarded for the productivity-enhancing skills it entails, but rather for reasons unrelated to productivity. Following this theory education is used for selection into the organization, after which directly observable skills are determining wages. Assuming that a strongly differentiated Educational system creates boundaries between social groups, it is hypothesized that strongly differentiated systems lead to stronger measured skill effects. We do not find support for this hypothesis.
