    The result of SEM observation shows that there is only one kind of trichoid sensilla on antenna of Empoasca (Empoasca) vitis (Gothe). Moreover, the number and distribution of the sensilla are similar between two sexes.

    : The results from the study on the olfactory orientation behavior of Empoasca vitis to tea plant showed that the greenfly lefhopper Empoasca vitis inclined firstly to light, which was the role of visual sense, and they showed response to ordor. when neared to the host plant from the certain distance, Tea shoots volatiles and linalool showed the strongest attraction to E.vitis, and the compound 2,6 dimethyl 3,7 octadiene 2, 6 diol resulted from tea plant greenfly leafhopper complexes, showed slight repellent role.

  • Predatory functional responses of Agelena labyrinthica (Clerck) to Empoasca vitis (Gthe)

    Abstract:

    The predatory functional responses of Agelena labyrinthica (Clerck) to Empoasca (Empoasca) vitis (Gthe) were studied in laboratory. The results showed that the functional responses of both male and female spiders belonged to Holling's Ⅱ type. The control ability of the female predator of A. labyrinthica (Clerck) to the prey E. (Empoasca) vitis (Gthe) was larger than the male spiders, and their predatory upper limits were 295.3 adults and 120.7 adults, respectively. This suggested that the spiders had larger potential in controlling the leafhoppers. The feeding pattern of A. labyrinthica (Clerck) was also observed.

    Experiments were made both in laboratory and in tea field about the preference of green leafhopper Empoasca (Empoasca) vitis (G [KG-2]o[DD(-1]¨the) to different colors The result showed that yellow is the most attractive color Under laboratory conditions,amber yellow was the strongest to attract the leafhoppers There were no significant difference among amber yellow,lake water blue and gem green,but there showed significant difference between amber yellow and emerald green,snow white ,reddish orange respectively(p0 05) Among different yellow plates,there had no significant difference in attracting green leafhoppers,but among different yellows and emerald green,indigo blue and sea blue,there had significant difference (p0 05) in attracting In tea field,amber yellow was the strongest to attract the leafhoppers,there had no significant difference between amber yellow and gem green,and between amber yellow to lake water blue,there were significant difference(p0 05) The laboratory and field experiments showed that the green leafhopper had a preference for yellow green and pale green

    Abstract:

    Recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between a leafhopper-susceptible bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), Berna Dutch brown and leafhopper-resistant selection EMP 419 were examined for resistance to the leafhopper species Empoasca abae (Harris) and Empoasca kraemeri Ross and Moore in Ontario, Canada and Colombia, South America, respectively. In both Ontario and Colombia there were significant positive correlations of visual injury scores with percent reductions in seed count, seed yield and seed weights. Leafhopper injury symptoms were significantly correlated with degree of stunting in Ontario, while only leaf burn scores were correlated with stunting in Colombia. Nymph counts were significantly and positively correlated with leaf curl scores in Ontario but not in Colombia, despite significant rank correlations of leaf burn scores and leaf curl scores between these locations.     Summary The typical presentation of potato leafhopper injury in beans includes necrosis at the leaf margins (leaf burn or hopperburn), and downward curling or “cupping” of the leaves. To evaluate potato leafhopper damage a visual score that combines the overall severity of leaf burn, leaf curling and stunting symptoms is usually used. Nonetheless, it may be useful to evaluate these symptoms separately since they may be the result of separate mechanisms of damage, controlled by separate genes. A population of 108 recombinant inbred lines (RILs), derived from a cross between a leafhopper-susceptible Ontario cultivar (Berna) and a resistant line (EMP 419) were scored for injury after natural infestation with Empoasca fabae in Canada and Empoasca kraemeri in Colombia.
