    Abstract:

Soil behavior in the range of small strains should be considered in the analysis of geotechnical problems when sensitive elements are affected, which is very common in urban environments. However, some of the tests that allow to determinate soil parameters in the range of small strains are still not sufficiently extended in geotechnical Engineering Professional practice, hindering its estimation and use in constitutive models. Nowadays, the constitutive model Hardening Soil with Small Strain Stiffness (HS-SS) of Plaxis is practically the only one with an extended use in the Professional practice that considers such behavior, while the rest of this type of models are generally limited to an academic use. Despite its great advantages, some aspects of the HS-SS model that could be improved have been detected, as well as some inconsistencies whose effects can have a considerable influence on the numerical simulations of boundary problems, as these are cumulative. This thesis analyzes and classifies 48 soil constitutive models that consider soil behavior in the range of small strains, characterized by being nonlinear, hysteretic and dependent on recent history. For this, different classification criteria have been used, some of them pre-existing and others established in this work. A new elastoplastic soil constitutive model denominated Elastoplastic Hysteretic Small Strain (EPHYSS) has been developed, which is composed by the Hysteretic Quasi-Hypoelastic (HQH) model and the Hardening Soil Modified (HSmod) model. The EPHYSS model describes, on the one hand, the nonlinear reversible, hysteretic and dependent on recent history soil behavior by using the HQH model, which considers the strain-induced anisotropy, and, on the other hand, the soil plastic behavior by using the Cap-Cone HSmod model. The EPHYSS model state variables define different short and long-term memory levels that provide it with robustness for the reproduction of soil hysteretic behavior. Among them, the deviatoric strain history tensor and the maximum value of the shear stiffness corresponding to the active degradation curve allow to reproduce infinite degradation curves according to the level of strain reversal, which confers great versatility to the model and adaptability to experimental results. The EPHYSS model code, entirely provided in this thesis, has been written in FORTRAN and implemented in Plaxis through the User Defined Soil Model (UDSM) modulus. A verification of the EPHYSS model has been made, as well as a validation using different experimental tests, numerical tests and boundary value problems of works in which some type of monitoring has been performed. Among these works, there is a large urban excavation in Barcelona, for whose analysis resonant column tests and various in situ measurements have been conducted. It is concluded that the EPHYSS model significantly improves the approximation to the experimental data with respect to the HS-SS model in the simulations of the different tests and boundary value problems, especially in those that present reversals in deviatoric loadings; resolves the inconsistencies of the latter; has a reasonable computational cost; provides flexibility in the use of different plastic formulations; and requires simple parameters, most of them common to those of the HS-SS model, which distinguishes it from other complex constitutive models that are usually limited to an academic use. All this makes the EPHYSS model a model that can be used for analysis and design in geotechnical Engineering practice. • development of a matlab simulink based wind turbine prototyping software through undergraduate student projects
Computer Applications in Engineering Education, 2012
    Co-Authors: Mohamed Benbouzid, Demba Diallo
    Abstract:

Electrical Engineering and more particularly Power Engineering at the undergraduate level is facing a crisis at many French universities in terms of enrollment. One reason is the attraction of “newer” areas like Computer Engineering, which seem to excite the students more and pay higher starting salaries. In this difficult context, a significant educational investment is necessary to excite the students and entice them into Power Engineering. An area that students universally find interesting is alternate energy systems based on a renewable energy supply like wind. What is interesting with this area is that it includes the fundamental material that already exists in many energy conversion courses. Therefore, in this article the authors present the development of wind turbine prototyping software under Matlab/Simulink® through undergraduate student projects within the Electrical and Computer Engineering Professional Institute(IUP GEII) at Amiens, France 1. This software was developed by a group of three students of the Institute third and final year. It was then used by another group of three students of the Institute second year to realize a wind energy system model. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Comput Appl Eng Educ 20: 78–87, 2012

    Abstract:

The thesis work called "Geomechanical Evaluation of the Rocky Massif in the Bateas Mining Unit - Level 6 Veta Ánimas" that I present to the members of the Jury for the title of Geological Engineer in the Geological Engineering Professional School of the Faculty of Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the National University of Engineering, has had as fundamental objective: • Establish a procedure that regulates the correct execution of the geotechnical mapping of drilling, delivering the guidelines and general definitions to follow. Presenting basic definitions regarding the information that must be compiled to use the classifications of Bieniawski (1989). • Lay the base for the construction of the Three-dimensional Geological- Geotechnical Model of the rock mass. To achieve the aforementioned objectives, fieldwork and cabinet methods have been used to support the ideas proposed in the thesis, as well as to make suggested academic proposals. I also want to highlight the importance of safety in the realization of this type of work that involves, beating the witnesses of drilling with the geologist's hammer, use of the knife, among others. It is expected to develop a geotechnical geological work, which leads to a better knowledge of the rock mass for future mining developments. The thesis was developed in 6 months, of which the first 3 months were carried out at the Caylloma mine of the Bateas Mining Unit in Arequipa, where it compiled the information, geotechnical logging, treatment and analysis of drillhole data and geological interpretation by sections. The remaining 3 months were developed in Lima, where the statistical analysis of the parameters of the rock mass, the analysis of wedges and the writing of the thesis was carried out. The work consists of six (6) chapters, highlighting Chapter VI Geomechanical Classification, in which analyzes are made for the construction of the Three- dimensional Geological-Geometric Model of the rock mass, in addition to the stability analysis of Level 6 of the Ánimas vein using the Unwedge software.

    Abstract:

The planet is in continuous growth in different aspects, such as industry, infrastructure, commerce and financially, these actions bring benefits to society at the same time consequences, in the absence of preventive measures by the authorities, as well as leaving remnants, waste and debris that end up deposited in streams, streets, and vacant lots. If we focus on the construction sector we find that construction, demolition and other waste are not used in our country. In order to reuse these resources, a scientific study was carried out on these recycled elements, which were called in this study recycled aggregates. From this we wanted to compare the resistance to compression and impermeability in concrete, with respect to concrete of natural aggregates. To develop this research, four stages were approached, the first was natural fine aggregate from the Cumbaza River and crushed stone from the Huallaga river was used, as well as recycling fine and coarse aggregates from the San Martin concrete factory, from construction in process and from demolitions paths. Second, tests were carried out in the soil and pavement laboratory at the civil Engineering Professional school at the National University of San Martin - Morales, in which NTP 339, 003,084,339,127,400 was used. In the third place, the design and curing of the CAN and CAR concrete mixtures was carried out and executed, in which the COMMITTEE 211, ACI Method was used. Fourth, the compression tests and the permeability tests were performed. test tubes, subsequently discussed and concluded the results. The research was carried out with the objective of comparing the resistance to compression and impermeability of concretes made from natural aggregates (CAN), with concretes made from 100% recycled aggregates (CAR) in order to determine their use. Once the tests and tests were carried out, it was concluded that the concrete made from recycled aggregates reduces its resistance by 34.16% compared to traditional concrete (CAN). In addition to comparing the permeability, having as a result for the CAN concrete a permeability of 3.63E - 08 m/s and of the CAR concrete a permeability of 5.95 E - 08 m/s.TesisAp
