Pathogenisis and Immunity to Entamoeba Histolytica

PetriAbstract:Diseases caused by the parasite Entamoeba Histolytica disproportionately affect residents of underdeveloped areas, afflicting places lacking sufficient sanitation, hygiene, and water processing especially. While the recent differentiation between Entamoeba Histolytica and the morphologically identical but completely asymptomatic Entamoeba dispar based on genetic and biochemical analyses has enhanced the study of the disease-causing parasite, a mystery still exists as to the factors which still cause about 90% of Entamoeba Histolytica infections to remain asymptomatic after colonization. Researchers delving into these areas have identified several features of the parasite—including the galactose and N-acetylgalactosamine inhibitable adherence lectin, proteinases, and amoebapores, all virulence factors in Entamoeba—and of the host, including the association of anti-lectin IgA with resistance to disease, which may determine whether infection is invasive. As specific and easy diagnostics are developed to aid in identifying more precisely the health burden caused by E. Histolytica, vaccine candidates are under evaluation.

Histolytica infections more accurately.

This study should provide a basis for molecular identification and characterization of phagosome biogenesis.

Entamoeba Histolytica and urticaria
Ankara Medical Journal, 2016Co-Authors: Kurtuluş AksuAbstract:Dear Editor, I have read the article “Chronic spontaneous urticaria and internal parasites–a systematic review” written by Kolkhir P et al published in Allergy with great interest and benefited information regarding possible relationship between parasitic infections and chronic spontaneous urticaria in Turkey. 1 In this article it is mentioned that Blastocystishominis and Giardia spp are related to chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) in Turkey. Entamoeba Histolytica, on the contrary, is blamed to be responsible for this pathology only in one report from India. As mentioned in this article, Entamoeba Histolytica, which is the third most common cause of parasitic infections, is the most common cause of CSU in adults. We have recently published a report on coexistence of urticaria and Entamoeba Histolytica in your journal. 2 Among 188 patients diagnosed with urticaria in our Immunology and Allergy Clinic between July 2013 and April 2014, routine microscopic stool examinations revealed positive results in four specimens. These four specimens were positive for Entamoeba Histolytica resulting in an incidence of 2.1%. In this context, we think that parasitic infections should be concerned in all patients with CSU; however, this issue should be evaluated more closely and responsible microorganisms as to the basis of countries should be investigated with epidemiological studies.

Urticaria and Entamoeba Histolytica Association: Report of Four Cases

There is limited research about urticaria relations of parasitosis, the majority consisting of case reports. Current studies show that other parasitic infections are more frequently observed in the etiology of urticaria, whereas the incidence of Entamoeba Histolytica is quite low. Here we present four recent cases of Entamoeba Histolytica which its diagnosis was made in routine stool microscopy in urticaria. Three patients had no gastrointestinal symptoms, by the treatment of Entamoeba Histolytica three patients’ urticaria have regressed, one patient was referred to the infectious diseases clinic because of chronic renal failure.
