Realistic Ultrasonic Environment Simulation Using Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks
2019 IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV), 2019Co-Authors: Maximilian Pöpperli, Raghavendra Gulagundi, Senthil Yogamani, Stefan MilzAbstract:Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have achieved outstanding results in generation of realistic data, particularly for image data. Autonomous driving systems are equipped with a large suite of sensors to obtain robustness and redundancy. Ultrasonic sensors are commonly used because of their low-cost and reliability of near-field distance estimation. However, machine learning algorithms are not commonly used for ultrasonic data, as it requires extensive datasets whose creation is time-consuming, expensive and inflexible to hardware and Environmental changes. On the other hand, there exists no method to simulate these signals deterministically. Thus, we present a novel approach for synthetic ultrasonic signal Simulation using conditional GANs (cGANs). To the best of our knowledge, we present the first realistic data augmentation for automotive ultrasonics sensors. The performance of cGANs allows us to bring the Environment Simulation to a high quality close to realistic data. By using our setup and Environmental parameters as condition, the proposed approach is flexible to external influences. Due to its low complexity and smaller time effort needed for data generation, the proposed method outperforms other Simulation algorithms such as finite element method. We verify the outstanding accuracy and realism of our method by applying a detailed statistical analysis and comparing the generated data to an extensive amount of measured signals.

Realistic Ultrasonic Environment Simulation Using Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks.
arXiv: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, 2019Co-Authors: Maximilian Pöpperl, Raghavendra Gulagundi, Senthil Yogamani, Stefan MilzAbstract:Recently, realistic data augmentation using neural networks especially generative neural networks (GAN) has achieved outstanding results. The communities main research focus is visual image processing. However, automotive cars and robots are equipped with a large suite of sensors to achieve a high redundancy. In addition to others, ultrasonic sensors are often used due to their low-costs and reliable near field distance measuring capabilities. Hence, Pattern recognition needs to be applied to ultrasonic signals as well. Machine Learning requires extensive data sets and those measurements are time-consuming, expensive and not flexible to hardware and Environmental changes. On the other hand, there exists no method to simulate those signals deterministically. We present a novel approach for synthetic ultrasonic signal Simulation using conditional GANs (cGANs). For the best of our knowledge, we present the first realistic data augmentation for automotive ultrasonics. The performance of cGANs allows us to bring the realistic Environment Simulation to a new level. By using setup and Environmental parameters as condition, the proposed approach is flexible to external influences. Due to the low complexity and time effort for data generation, we outperform other Simulation algorithms, such as finite element method. We verify the outstanding accuracy and realism of our method by applying a detailed statistical analysis and comparing the generated data to an extensive amount of measured signals.

ICECS - Bounding-Volume Hierarchies Technique for Detecting Object Interference in Urban Environment Simulation
2009 Second International Conference on Environmental and Computer Science, 2009Co-Authors: Hamzah Asyrani Sulaiman, Abdullah Bade, Norhaida Mohd SuaibAbstract:Performing and detecting object interference or collision detection in urban Environment Simulation is always challenging problem for researchers to come out with fast and efficient collision detection algorithm. Most of previous method seems trying to tackle the problems of involving specific geometric models colliding pairs with restricted rules and guidelines. For example, convex hull bounding-volume tends to solve the collision detection problems by make the collision more accurate. However, its limitation of performing fast collision detection method must be left behind. Hence, in this paper we introduce new traversal algorithm using Bounding-Volume Hierarchies (BVH) for collision detection in urban Environment Simulation. By using hierarchical approach, the efficiency of detecting object interference in urban Simulation is increase. We believe that BVH method can be useful in urban Simulation for collision detection between static rigid models and dynamic rigid models. Thus it should be able to overcome the equipment of urban Environment Simulation. Our result shows that bounding-volume hierarchies achieve favorable frame-rates in real time Simulation using top-down binary tree. In practice, the construction of bounding-volume hierarchies in urban Environment Simulation are not just useful for collision detection but they also useful for others detecting object interference technique such culling and raytracing.

The Effect of Aerobic Exercise to Weight Reduction in Thermal Environment Simulation in Winter——The Primary Study of a Teaching Practice
Chinese Journal of Social Medicine, 2020Co-Authors: Bao YingchunAbstract:Objectives To explore a safe, fast and effective physical education method by applying aerobic exercise in the thermal Environment Simulation in winter in reducing weight for the overweight trainees. Methods According to the military physical fitness standards,76 overweight military trainees were selected and statistically divided into the experiment group(n=38) and the control group(n=38).All the trainees participated in the routine physical training. While the trainees in the experiment group received the additional reduction exercise in the thermal Environment(80 min per time /3 times per week /7 weeks). Results The average weight reduction of trainees in the experiment group and the control group were 4.26 kg and 1.32 kg respectively after the exercise training. The methods applied in both groups could be applicable to weight reduction, but the one in the experiment group was better(P0.01).Conclusions The effect of aerobic exercise in thermal Environment Simulation, the effect of weight reduction are significant.

A Study of Thermal Environment Simulation on Female Undergraduates' of Military Academy Flexibility Quality in Winter
Chinese Journal of Social Medicine, 2020Co-Authors: Bao YingchunAbstract:Objectives Human flexibility is relatively poor in winter. So we try to make use of the thermal Environment Simulation to improve the students' qualities on flexibility. Methods We measure the flexibility with the stand-and–reach test on 96 female undergraduates in a certain military academy aged from 18 to 22 according to the standards of physical competence for PLA soldiers.20 unqualified students were selected as the samples and the flexibility of their bilateral shoulder joints as well hip knee joints were measured. Results After 10 times of flexibility exercises with 80 minutes each, compared with their former performance, the stand-and-reach can be lowered by 10.55 cm,bilateral shoulder joints' spinning span by 14.75 cm,cross split by 13.85,left side split by 19.15 cm,right side split by 19.60.Conclusions The flexibility quality training effects in thermal Environment are significant.
