    Abstract:

    E-books are a relatively new phenomenon and correspondingly, there is limited research on the factors associated with e-book usage especially in relation to printed books. In this research it is, therefore, of interest to examine antecedents of e-book usage intentions in one conceptual framework. The study was conducted using a course e-book. Findings reveal that Environmental Consciousness lowers the preference for printed books, and augments the design evaluation of the e-book. Personality factors impact the preference for printed books and perceived design evaluation of the e-book in different ways. A preference for printed books reduces, whereas perceived positive navigational design enhances, the attitude toward e-book usage. The findings have theoretical and practical implications. This study is one of the first to systematically study the e-book usage antecedents in a holistic manner, and also the first to examine the role of Environmental Consciousness in impacting e-book usage intentions in general.

    Although recent studies shed light on design features preferred by users of e-books, little effort has been made to examine the impact of e-book design and characteristics of the individual user on usage or continued usage of ebooks in one conceptual framework. This study examines (1) the role of Environmental Consciousness and personality (Big-5) on e-book usage, and also, (2) the influence of preference for traditional books and the perceived e-book design on e-book usage intentions. One of the significant findings is that Environmental Consciousness lowers preference for traditional books, thereby increasing acceptance of e-books, and increasing perceived design evaluation of the e-book.     Abstract:

    Abstract Worldwide Environmental Consciousness begins in 1970 with the first “Earth Day”. Environmental education has been used to increase this type of awareness, although other extra-curricular routes have also been proposed. The general objective of this article is to compare Environmental Consciousness in two school training compulsory levels (primary education and secondary education), in the town of Elche (Spain), making use of a School Ecobarometer analysing four dimensions: affective, cognitive, conative and active. We conclude that primary education students have higher Environmental Consciousness than secondary students, and therefore support the suggestions of authors who see an intervention in extra-curricular environments as necessary to improve Environmental Consciousness.

    Abstract:

    In this study, it is aimed to determine Environmental awareness of secondary and high school students in Bodrum, Turkey. This cross-sectional designed study was conducted on 381 students from secondary school and 335 high school students between 5th and 12th grades in Bodrum. In order to assess the Environmental Consciousness level, a questionnaire form consisting 58 questions and 17 statements for evaluation of Environmental Consciousness was developed by researchers. t test was used for the difference between the distribution of percentages and the difference between the averages of Environmental Consciousness level. The top three Environmental health issues that were determined as "very harmful" were "smoking, air pollution resulting from power plants and being in a smoking area" for secondary school students and "smoking, air pollution resulting from power plants and ozone depletion" for high school students. Both in secondary and high school students, the mean Environmental Consciousness level of female students was higher than that of male students. The mean Environmental Consciousness level was 12.4 ± 2.7 for secondary school students and 12.1 ± 3.1 for high school students. There was a need of training activities of both the teachers and the students to improve the Environmental awareness of the secondary and high school students.

  • EVALUATION OF THE Environmental Consciousness OF THE STUDENTS IN A MEDICAL FACULTY IN ANKARA

    Abstract:

    Objectives: The reseach is conducted to evaluate the Environmental Consciousness of the students in a medical faculty in Ankara. Materials and Methods: Of the 412 students, 342 (83.0%) participated this cross-sectional study. Data were collected in August 2000 with ?Environmental Consciousness Research Form?, the questionnaire prepared by the researchers and analysed using EPI INFO 6.0, a statistical package programme. Results: Mean age of the study group was 23.71 and 54.7% were male. Most of the students (74.4%) reported that they would go to school/work by bycle, bus or on foot, and 87.1 percent of them told they would prefer train. Of the participants, 72.3% think Environmental problems are not the issues only governments would care about. While most of them (81.8%) reported that they would give up buying the products harmful to the environment, only 18.8% told they would want to deliver brochures about environment to each house. Nearly half of the students reported that they wouldn?t spend their money for the solution of Environmental problems. Most of the students reported that they didn?t admit to any official institution to get information on Environmental pollution (90.3%), never attended a meeting on environment (85.6%) and never subscribed to a publication about the environment (91.4%). The students knew the products containing mercury, the substances which do not dissepear in the ocean and about the ozone layer depletion. Environmental Consciousness scores are calculated by grading the questions about Environmental Consciousness. Mean score was 27.47. Nearly half of the students (53.2%) had a score over 28. Students reported that deforestation (10.1%), air pollution (8.0%), population explosion (7.8%), nuclear weapons (7.3%) and industrial wastes (7.1%) would be the most important problems in 21. century. Conclusion: Complementing the lack of knowledge determined in the study by planning educational programmes, considering the Environmental issues cautiously, effectively and systematically and improving the researches about Environmental Consciousness should be the priorities.

  • Forecasting the purchase intention of IT product: Key roles of trust and Environmental Consciousness for IT firms

    Abstract:

    The dramatic deviations between a firm's CSR statements and its actual business practices show negative effects on consumers' trust and purchase intention. This study assesses consumers' purchase intention of IT product from the aspect of trust and Environmental Consciousness. The empirical results of this study show that the positive relationship between trust and purchase intention is positively moderated by Environmental Consciousness. Materialism increases the positive interaction effect of trust and Environmental Consciousness on purchase intention, such that the positive relationship between trust and purchase intention is stronger when both Environmental Consciousness and materialism are higher. Materialism increases the negative interaction effect of hypocrisy and Environmental Consciousness on trust, such that the negative relationship between hypocrisy and trust is stronger when both Environmental Consciousness and materialism are higher.
