The Environmental Information Disclosure Decree was the first to operationalize these general regulations into a sectoral Information disclosure system on environment. This study assessed the implementation of the Environmental Information disclosure system about six months after the Decree took e ect on May 1, 2008. Through reviewing the websites of all 31 provincial Environmental Protection Bureaus and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, conducting an experiment with actual Information disclosure request, and through interviews with all provincial Environmental Protection Bureaus, this article concluded that the implementation of the Environmental Information disclosure system still falls short. Future improvements should focus on further publicity of the regulations and decree to enhance public participation, the establishment of an independent evaluation and supervision system for Information disclosure, the exchange of experiences and best practices among provincial Environmental Protection Bureaus, and on strengthening the legal status of Environmental Information disclosure.

Environmental Information Management in Municipalities

It was found that there are considerable differences between the municipalities studied, regarding needs for Environmental Information as well as approaches and tools used for providing the Information needed—differences that seem closely related to the structures of the municipalities. The paper ends with a discussion on some general requirements for municipal Environmental Information management. Besides a need for analytical tools, it is argued that municipalities would have to pay more attention to political aspects of the Environmental situation in Environmental decision making, and thus in Environmental Information management.

The effect of Environmental Information on investment allocation decisions – an experimental study
Business Strategy and the Environment, 2008Co-Authors: Pall Rikhardsson, Claus HolmAbstract:This paper focuses on the use of Environmental Information in investment decision making. The research approach employed is based on an experiment where three groups of final year finance students were asked to allocate investment funds between two companies based on financial accounts and Information material from these companies in which Environmental Information was included in varying degrees. The overall conclusion is that the qualitative Environmental Information affects short term allocation decisions, hence indicating a risk reduction potential of Environmental Information comparable to the classic interpretation of financial Information. The quantitative Environmental Information included in the experiment seems to mitigate rather than extend the directional effect of more Environmental Information. The evidence also seems to indicate that decision makers are not always aware which Information categories affect their decision making. Hence, this has implications for how the potential value of Environmental Information is to be assessed. Finally, experimental studies as a methodology seem to be better suited to indicate actual effects of different types of Information on decision making than attitude surveys.
