Amirinic acid transformed into amirolide in deuterated chloroform at room temperature. The new products were characterized by exhaustive spectroscopic studies as 2α,3β,7β-trihydroxy-11α-methoxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid and 2α,3β,7β-trihydroxyurs-11-en-28,13β-olide.

The new products were characterized by chemical and spectroscopic studies as camaldulic acid (20β-acetoxy-3β-hydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid) (1), camaldulensic acid (3β,30-dihydroxy-11α-methoxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid) (2) and camaldulenic acid (2α,3β-dihydroxyolean-11,13(18)-dien-28-oic acid) (3), whereas the known compound was identified as ursolic acid lactone (3β-hydroxyurs-11-en-13β(28)-olide).

Examined extracts in different solvents such as diethyl ether extract (DEE), the ethanolic extract (EE) and the aqueous extract (AE). Total polyphenol and total flavonoid contents were determined via aluminum chloride colorimetric method. Antioxidant activity was performed via ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging assays. The results showed that a wide variety of pharmacologically active compounds such as alkaloid, oil, flavonoid, triterpenoid, saponin, tannin and polyphenol were present in the leaves of Eucalyptus Camaldulensis. The result of quantitative determination showed that total polyphenol content of the diethyl ether extract, ethanolic extract and aqueous extract achieved 73.47 ± 1.64, 306.48 ± 3.87 and 76.47 ± 1.64 mgGAE/g, respectively. Meanwhile, total flavonoid content was 41.74 ± 2.21, 45.98 ± 1.79 and 18.05 ± 0.81 mgQE/g, respectively. The ethanolic extract exhibited the highest DPPH (IC50 = 10.52 ± 0.14 μg/mL) and ABTS (IC50 = 9.86 ± 0.17 μg/mL). These results indicate that Eucalyptus Camaldulensis leaves can be used in dietary applications with the potential to reduce oxidative stress.
