A Review of Existing Web Site Models for E-Commerce
Journal of Internet Banking and Commerce, 2007Co-Authors: Chai Lee GoiAbstract:On reviewing the literature it became evident that previous researchers adopted a high-level approach to the development of Web Site design models. The models were designed to be adapted to multiple industries resulting in broad categories. The literature has uncovered three main ways of classifying Web Sites. The digital business model, e.g. Wen, Chen and Hwang (2001) and Schneider and Perry (2001) describe ways in which business can be conducted over the Web. The stages of development model, e.g. Ho (1997), Burgess and Cooper (1999), Boon, Hewett and Parker (2000), Lowe (2001), Becker (2002) and Davidson (2002) describes different stages of development with functionality mapped to each stage. In scoring systems, e.g. Elliot (2002), Cast Bobby (1999) and Gartner (2002), specific features of a Web Site are identified and given a score.

They also expected this Web Site to serve many different types of information needs for Existing students, faculty, staff, and alumni. an interdisciplinary team of faculty, graduate students, and staff was formed to evaluate the Existing Web Site. A group from this team first conducted a needs analysis to determine the kinds of information the target population was seeking. This analysis led to the creation of a new information structure for the Web Site. Usability tests of the both the new and old designs were conducted on paper. Users were able to find answers to frequently asked questions much more rapidly and successfully with the new information structure. This structure was further refined through additional usability tests conducted on the Web itself. This descriptive case study illustrates the value of user-centered design and usability testing of World Wide Web Sites.

Disability and access to courts: Assessing the accessibility of U.S. federal judiciary homepages thirty years after the ADA
University of Illinois at Chicago University Library, 2021Co-Authors: Corra Mamadi, Mccandliss IanAbstract:Using basic accessibility standards, the presence or absence of essential usability features, and Site accessibility statements, this study evaluates the accessibility of the home pages of the federal judiciary — those of the U.S. district, Appellate and specialty courts, the Administrative Office of U.S. Courts (AO), the Federal Judicial Center (FJC), and the main homepage of PACER, the federal judiciary’s e-filing and e-records access system. Software evaluations reveal detected instances of a narrow set of accessibility issues, including scripts with no accompanying functional text, images/server-side image maps with no text equivalents/descriptors, and inaccessible forms. Manual evaluations of Web Sites show a high proportion (about 67 percent) of the home pages provided skip navigation links, whereas smaller proportions provided direct or indirect links to accessibility information — about 15 percent and 12 percent, respectively, as well as controls for manipulating font size (about 12 percent). Notably, a sizeable proportion (about 45 percent) of home pages provided direct or indirect links to a “BrowseAloud” explanation and download page, apparently in lieu of information on accessibility. Finally, content analysis of Existing Web Site accessibility pages and policy statements show a high degree of variation, with some being exceptionally detailed and informative, and some less so
