  • MODELO SOCIOFÍSICO DE LA INFLUENCIA DE PROPAGANDA MASIVA EN UN SISTEMA SOCIAL / Sociophysical Model of Mass Media Influence on a Social System
    2013
    Co-Authors: M. G. Cosenza, K. Tucci, Juan Campos Avella
    Abstract:

ABSTRACT After a brief review of the recent field of Sociophysics, we present a cellular automata model of an External cultural influenceor Message, such as a controlled mass media, acting on a social system. The model is based on the rules of culturaldissemination proposed by Axelrod. It is found that the External Message induces a phase transition in the system: if theintensity of the Message is less than some threshold value, the Message can impose its cultural state to the system, that is,the system reaches an ordered, homogeneous state equal to the cultural state of the Message. However, if the intensity ofthe transmitted Message is above the threshold value, the system reaches a disordered state characterized by the presenceof many different cultural groups. These states are described in the space of parameters of the system, consisting of theintensity of the Message or mass media influence and the number of available cultural options. Keywords: cellular automata, Sociophysics, models of social dynamics, phase transitions, dynamical systems.

  • WORDS - Scenario-based implementation architecture for real-time object-oriented models
Proceedings of the Seventh IEEE International Workshop on Object-Oriented Real-Time Dependable Systems. (WORDS 2002), 2002
    Co-Authors: Seongsoo Hong, Naehyuck Chang
    Abstract:

This paper presents a scenario-based implementation architecture supporting a method capable of automatically mapping real-time object-oriented models into multi-threaded implementations. To implement the synthesis tool supporting the method, we exploit existing CASE tools that support the object-based implementation architecture. Challenges in our approach are (1) how to embed our implementation model into generated design-model-dependent code and (2) how to implement the model-independent run-time-system library. In our approach, to map each scenario to a thread, we make External Messages starting scenarios delivered to their mapped physical thread. The main operation of the thread is (1) waiting for any External Message to be delivered and (2) executing a while loop where all internal Messages are sent and received. The state transition of an active object is guarded by an object-specific mutex to maintain the run-to-completion semantics. The priority of a thread is dynamically set according to the scheduling attributes of an External Message for the thread to process.

  • Mass media and repulsive interactions in continuous-opinion dynamics
    Europhysics Letters, 2010
Co-Authors: Teresa Vaz Martins, Miguel Pineda, Raul Toral
    Abstract:

This letter focus on the effect of repulsive interactions on the adoption of an External Message in an opinion model. With a simple change in the rules, we modify the Deffuant emphet al. model to incorporate the presence of repulsive interactions. We will show that information receptiveness is optimal for an intermediate fraction of repulsive links. Using the master equation as well as Monte Carlo simulations of the Message-free model, we identify the point where the system becomes optimally permeable to External influence with an order-disorder transition.
