African Journal of Social Work, 2015
    Co-Authors: Isaiah Mobolaji Ojedokun
    Abstract:

The study examined Extramarital Affair as correlate of reproductive health and home instability among couples in Ibadan, Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. Two hundred (200) couples were randomly selected for the study. A self-structured questionnaire was used to collect data for the study and a reliability coefficient of r=0.64 was obtained. Collated and coded data was analysed with the use of frequency count, percentages and Pearson moment correlation statistical method. Two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. The findings revealed that, there was significant relationship between extra-marital Affair and reproductive health (r=.256, N=200, p<0.05. In the same vein, there was a significant relationship between Extramarital Affair and home instability in Nigeria (r=.142, N=200. P=<0.05). The study concluded that extra-marital Affair is on the high side globally. It was also established that it threatens home stability and encourages the spread of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV and AIDS and other STDs. It was recommended that couples should go an extra mile to ensure success in marriage. Health social workers, health educators, religious leaders, parents and educators should also ensure adequate dissemination of information on the importance of reproductive health education and home stability to health and general well-being. • Sexual and cardiovascular correlates of male unfaithfulness.
The journal of sexual medicine, 2012
Co-Authors: Alessandra D. Fisher, Elisa Bandini, Giovanni Corona, Matteo Monami, Edoardo Mannucci, Giulia Rastrelli, Mario Maggi
    Abstract:

ABSTRACT Introduction Definitions of unfaithfulness and its consequences vary across different cultures, religions, and legal jurisdictions; however, having Extramarital Affairs is associated in most societies with a stigma. Therefore, the study of this sensitive topic is extremely complex, and its prevalence is often underestimated. Aim To offer a summary of available data in literature about unfaithfulness. Method An extensive Medline search was performed including the following words “unfaithfulness,”“Extramarital Affairs,”“infidelity,”“men.” The search, up to December 4, 2011, was restricted to English-language articles. Main Outcome Measures We reported literature data on the prevalence of unfaithfulness and on related psychobiological, sexual, and risk factors. Results Some surveys reported that 1.5–4% of married men had Extramarital coitus in any given year, others that 23.2% of men have cheated during their current relationship. Different studies reported a lifetime prevalence of unfaithfulness between 15% and 50%. With respect to factors related to unfaithfulness, several authors reported that men with Extramarital Affairs more frequently have a dysfunctional primary relationship, in both relational and sexual terms. In addition, parenthood, as well as conflicts within the family, seem to be associated with a higher risk of having an Affair. Furthermore, unfaithful men display a higher androgenization, larger testis volume, lower prevalence of hypoactive sexual desire, and better sexual functioning. Only few studies have evaluated the correlation between infidelity and cardiovascular risk, reporting that having an Extramarital Affair could have a negative impact on cardiac morbidity and mortality. Conclusions Several interpersonal, sexual, and biological factors are associated with having Extramarital Affairs. Unfaithfulness in men seems to be associated with a higher risk of major cardiovascular events. Fisher AD, Bandini E, Rastrelli G, Corona G, Monami M, Mannucci E, and Maggi M. • Stable Extramarital Affairs are breaking the heart
    International journal of andrology, 2011
Co-Authors: Alessandra D. Fisher, Elisa Bandini, Giovanni Corona, Matteo Monami, M. Cameron Smith, Cecilia Melani, Daniela Balzi, Gianni Forti, Edoardo Mannucci, Mario Maggi
    Abstract:

Summary The relationship between Extramarital Affairs and cardiovascular risk is still not completely clarified. The aim of this study was to investigate whether Extramarital Affairs have a protective effect on cardiovascular risk or, conversely, a deleterious one. Among patients studied, 91.8% of the whole sample reported no or occasional Extramarital Affairs, while 8.2% declared a stable secondary relationship. During a median follow-up of 4 [0–8] years, 95 major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), eight of which were fatal, were observed. Cox analysis, after adjustment for confounding factors, showed that presence of stable Extramarital Affair was associated with a higher incidence of MACE (HR = 2.13 [1.12; 4.07], p = 0.023). The introduction in the Cox model of patient perceived partner’s hypoactive sexual desire (PPPHSD) attenuates the association (HR 1.86 [0.93; 3.70], p = 0.078). The sample was therefore divided according to PPPHSD. We observed that unadjusted incidence of MACE was significantly associated with presence of Extramarital Affairs only in men reporting a primal partner without PPPHSD. This association was also confirmed in a Cox regression model, after adjusting for confounders (HR = 2.87 [1.81; 6.98], p = 0.020). We can conclude that to be unfaithful represents an independent risk factor for MACE. Therefore, infidelity induces not only heart trouble in the betrayed partners, but seems to be also able to increase the betrayer’s heart-related events.

  • neorealism history and the children s film vittorio de sica s the children are watching us reconsidered
    Pennsylvania Literary Journal, 2015
    Co-Authors: Bert Cardullo
    Abstract:

Vittorio De Sica used a child protagonist for the first time, not in his neorealist masterpiece Shoeshine (1946), but in his first truly serious film, The Children Are Watching Us (1943), which examines the impact on a young boy’s life of his mother’s Extramarital Affair with a family friend. The Children Are Watching Us proved to be a key work, thematically as well as stylistically, in De Sica’s directing career. In its thematic attempt to reveal the underside of Italy’s moral life, this film was indicative of a rising new vision in Italian cinema. And in exhibiting semi-documentary qualities by being shot partially on location, as well as by using nonprofessional actors in some roles, The Children Are Watching Us was a precursor of the neorealism that would issue forth after the liberation of occupied Rome.

  • Treating Affair couples: Extending the written disclosure paradigm to relationship trauma
Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice, 2006
Co-Authors: Douglas K. Snyder, Kristina Coop Gordon, Donald H. Baucom
    Abstract:

Considerable evidence now supports the psychological and health benefits of written emotional disclosure when pursued in an individual context. However, the literature has largely emphasized intrapersonal processes and outcomes to the neglect of interpersonal applications of the written disclosure paradigm, despite the fact that painful and traumatic emotional events frequently occur in the context of intimate personal relationships. In this commentary, we describe an extension of the written disclosure paradigm to the treatment of couples struggling to recover from an Extramarital Affair. Preliminary findings offer promise for integrating mutual written disclosure as an intervention component in treating relationship trauma.

  • An integrative intervention for promoting recovery from Extramarital Affairs.
Journal of marital and family therapy, 2004
Co-Authors: Kristina Coop Gordon, Donald H. Baucom, Douglas K. Snyder
    Abstract:

The discovery or disclosure of an Extramarital Affair can have a devastating impact on partners, both individually and on the relationships. Research suggests that Affairs occur relatively frequently in relationships and are a common presenting problem in couple therapy. However; despite their prevalence, there is little empirical treatment research in this area, and most therapists describe this problem as one of the more difficult to treat. In this study, we used a replicated case-study design to explore the efficacy of an integrative treatment designed to help couples recover from an Affair. Six couples entered and completed treatment. The majority of these couples were less emotionally or maritally distressed at the end of treatment, and the injured partners reported greater forgiveness regarding the Affair. Details of the intervention, suggested adaptations of the treatment, and areas for future research are discussed.
