Using an aqueous epoxide in Bombyx mori silk Fabric Finishing
Textile Research Journal, 2016Co-Authors: Zaisheng Cai, Yiping QiuAbstract:In order to increase the performance of silk Fabrics, especially their c ease resistance, an epoxy silicone crosslinking agent A (EPSIA) is synthesized and applied to silk Fabrics. The physical properties of EPSIA and those of the silk Fabrics treated with it are examined. After 240 days' storage, the specific gravity, viscosity, and performance of EPSIA do not change signif icantly. After EPSIA treatment, the dry and wet crease recovery angles of the silk Fabric increase 14% and 39%, respectively. Tensile strength, whiteness index, moisture regain, water absorp tion, solubility in a solvent mixture, and contact angle of the treated Fabric are either slightly lower or remain unchanged. In dyeing tests, there is a 25% improvement of percent exhaustion of Polar Red 10 B at equilibrium for the treated Fabric. In addition, for Lanaset dyes such as Red G, Yellow 2R, and Grey G, the KIS values of the silk Fabrics increase after EPSIA treatment, with little change in color, staining, and rubbing fastness.

A Novel Non-Aqueous Fabric Finishing Process
2001Co-Authors: Marian Mccord, Zaisheng Cai, Peter J. Hauser, Yiping Qiu, Jerome J. Cuomo, Orlando Hankins, Yoon-cheol Park, Laura Canup, Jinho Hyun, Brian BuresAbstract:Atmospheric plasma treatment has the capability to enhance or replace conventional wet Finishing processes, including water and stain repellant or flame retardant Finishing. Plasma treatment results primarily in surface effects, with little effect seen in bulk properties. Surface modifications may be accomplished through surface ablation, film deposition, or functionalization, or by some combination of these effects. Although there are many documented successes in the treatment of textile materials with low-pressure (vacuum) plasmas, atmospheric systems offer the substantial advantage of the ability to integrate into continuous processing operations. A strong effort is being directed toward understanding of atmospheric plasmas, interaction of such plasmas with textiles, and plasma parameters for treatments of textile materials. Characterization of this interaction, in order to predict and optimize treatment effects, is underway. A new atmospheric plasma device has been assembled. The roller system is under construction. Batch treatments of a variety of textile materials have been performed. Atmospheric plasma treatments have been shown to alter surface wettability of Fabrics. Currently, plasma removal of size, non-aqueous flame-retardant Finishing, and plasma-induced curing of conventional finishes are under investigation.

Synthesis of Aminosilicone Oil with Long-Chain Alkyl Groups Modification and its Application on Silk Fabric
Advanced Materials Research, 2013Co-Authors: Zhan Xiong Li, Jia Mei Jiang, Liang Shan, Yan Xu, Lin Wu, Xiong ZangAbstract:In the current work, aminosilicone oil modified with long-chain alkyl groups was obtained by a series of reactions, and the modified aminosilicone oil was emulsified and applied on silk Fabric Finishing. The effects of the content of long-chain alkyl and amino groups on the Finishing efficiency were investigated. The results showed that the surface roughness of the finished silk Fabric decreased with the increase of amino content, and when the amino content reached 11%, the surface roughness of finished silk Fabric was 40.9% lower than the untreated Fabric. This afforded the finished silk Fabric with excellent softness and smooth performance. The bending rigidity of the finished silk Fabric decreased when the long-chain alkyl group content increased. Meanwhile, element Si was introduced on the surface of silk Fabric with 18.93% element content, offering silk Fabric with smooth and soft handle.

Modification of Aminosilicone Oil with Long Side-Chain and its Application on Fabric Finishing
Advanced Materials Research, 2012Co-Authors: Zhan Xiong Li, Li Ping DuAbstract:In the current work, aminopropyl silicone oil was prepared by condensation reaction followed by chemical modification with high reactive carbon-17 mono-isocyanate. The stability of the emulsion of modified silicone oil was found to be excellent as compared with the untreated silicone oil. The modified silicone oil afforded better yellowing resistance, softness and laundry endurance, with stiffness change only 6.94% and handle retention rate 88.89% after ten launderings.
