  • pengaruh Family Support Group dengan menggunakan whatsapp terhadap nilai interdialytic weight gain idwg
    2019
Co-Authors: Aulia Safitri, Dhona Andhini, Fuji Rahmawati
    Abstract:

Non-compliance of hemodialysis patients in limiting fluid intake, one of which causes an increase in Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG), increasing the IDWG value that is too high can cause various kinds of complications such as hypertension, interdialysis hypotension, muscle cramps, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting and so forth. Lack of Family Support for the patient will affect the compliance of the patient's fluid intake restrictions. This research focuses on the use of whatsapp social media because whatsapp is the most popular social media in the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Family Support Group using Whatsapp on the value of Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG). This type of research is quantitative with pre experimental using one Group pretest and posttest design. The sample of this study was 16 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique. The results of bivariate analysis using paired t test there were significant differences between the IDWG values before and after the Family Support Group intervention by using whatsapp with p value 0.014 <0.05 (α = 0.05). The Family Support Group will increase compliance with restrictions on fluid intake in patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. Limitation of fluid intake in patients with chronic kidney disease needs attention to prevent complications. Family Support Group can be one of the nursing care media specifically to carry out preventive functions for families and patients. Keywords : Family Support Group, hemodialysis, IDWG, Whatsapp Group. Bibliography : 28 (2002-2019)

  • a Family Support Group for Family members of offenders with a mental illness part 2 treatment protocol
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy, 2018
Co-Authors: Sara Rowaert, Femke Hanssens, Kurt Audenaert, Stijn Vandevelde, Gilbert Lemmens
    Abstract:

Family members of offenders with a mental illness experience serious emotional, social, financial, and psychological burdens. They have to deal with both a rollercoaster of emotions and a double stigma for which they need Support. However, until now, few Family interventions have been developed in forensic settings because they face particular challenges. Therefore, a Family Support Group (FSG) has been developed to Support Family members in dealing with both the mental illness and the judicial order of their relative. The present article describes the treatment protocol of an FSG which is based on a multi-Family Group format that integrates systemic and narrative approaches and is adapted to the forensic context. The organisation of the FSG is explained and clinical vignettes are used to illustrate the therapeutic process. Finally, some reflections about the FSG are discussed.

  • Family Support Groups for Family members of mentally ill offenders: a pilot study
The Journal of Forensic Psychiatry & Psychology, 2018
Co-Authors: Sara Rowaert, Kurt Audenaert, Stijn Vandevelde, Gilbert Lemmens
    Abstract:

To date, there is a lack of Family interventions for Family members of persons with a mental illness who offended (PMIO). With the aim of addressing this issue, a Family Support Group (FSG) has been developed. The current pilot study investigated the impact of two pilot FSGs for Family members of PMIO in relation to quality of life, burden, coping strategies, and resilience. Family members completed several questionnaires (i.e. WHOQOL-BREF, ZBI-22, CERQ, RS-nl) both before and after the Group intervention. A total of 20 Family members participated in both FSGs. The results indicated that participants experienced less self-blame, a decrease in loss of control over their lives, and improved emotional well-being. The findings showed that attending an FSG can be empowering for Family members as it offers Support in the management of emotional experiences and coping strategies.

  • Family Support Groups for Family Members of Mentally Ill Offenders: Therapeutic Factors
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy, 2018
Co-Authors: Sara Rowaert, Kurt Audenaert, Stijn Vandevelde, Gilbert Lemmens
    Abstract:

This study investigates therapeutic factors of a Family Support Group (FSG) intervention for Family members of mentally ill offenders. Seventeen Family members completed the Group Therapeutic Factors-Client Questionnaire' (GTF-CQ-28) during four sessions of two FSGs. Results indicate that Family members experienced the following therapeutic factors over the course of treatment: the relational climate, interactional confirmation, expressing and experiencing mutual positive feelings, forgetting own problems, hope from seeing progress in others, guidance from therapists, and getting interpersonal feedback treatment. The therapeutic factors, including learning by observation, Support from the Group, and universality of problems, correlated with a decrease in self-blame, improved emotional well-being, and experiencing less loss of control over one's life, respectively. Further, Family members were satisfied with what the FSG has provided for them personally and for the relation with their relative. Finally, clinical implications of the FSG are discussed. The study sheds light on valuable therapeutic factors within an FSG and the important role of therapists.

  • Primary ciliary dyskinesia (Siewert's / Kartagener's Syndrome): Respiratory symptoms and psycho-social impact
    BMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2003
Co-Authors: I Christopher Mcmanus, Hannah M Mitchison, Eddie Mk Chung, Georgina F Stubbings, Naomi Martin
    Abstract:

Background Although the pathophysiological defect in primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD; Siewert's / Kartagener's syndrome) is now well characterised, there are few studies of the impact of the condition upon health function, particularly in later life. This study assesses the health impact of the condition in a large Group of patients. In addition, it assesses the similarity in age of diagnosis, symptoms and problems of those with situs inversus (PCD-SI) and those with situs solitus (PCD-SS). Methods Postal questionnaire sent to members of the UK Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia Family Support Group. The questionnaire contained the St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) and the SF-36 questionnaire for assessing health status. Results 93 questionnaires were returned, representing a 66% response rate. Replies were received from similar numbers of PCD-SI and PCD-SS. Individuals with PCD-SI did not show a significant tendency to be diagnosed earlier, and neither did they show any difference in their symptoms, or the relationship of symptoms to age. Respiratory symptoms were fairly constant up until the age of about 25, after which there was a slow increase in symptoms, and a decline in health status, patients over the age of 40 being about one and a half standard deviations below the mean on the physical component score of the PCS. Patients diagnosed earlier in life, and hence who had received more treatment for their condition, had better scores on the SGRQ Impact and Activity scores. Conclusions PCD is a chronic condition which has a progressively greater impact on health in the second half of life, producing significant morbidity and restriction of life style. Early diagnosis, and hence earlier treatment, may improve symptoms and the impact of the condition.
