  • Winter Simulation Conference - A simulation study of the communications performance of the federal aviation administration Mode Select Beacon System for air traffic control
1990 Winter Simulation Conference Proceedings, 1990
    Co-Authors: C. Laqui, Y. Qu
    Abstract:

The systems is an integrated aircraft surveillance and communications system which is being implemented by the federal aviation administration for use in air traffic control in the 1990s. The study was initiated in order to study the interaction of network layer entities within the Mode S system and to quantify the effect of higher-layer communication protocols on the performance of the system. In addition, the study investigates the impact of operational scenarios and data transfer techniques on the performance characteristics of the system. Simulation results are used to estimate system behavior under various air traffic conditions and confirm the suitability of the communications system to the projected air traffic environment. It is concluded that the capacity of the Mode S data link will support the projected operating scenarios. >

  • federal aviation administration faa reauthorization an overview of legislative action in the 112th congress
    2011
    Co-Authors: Bart Elias
    Abstract:

This report looks at issues faced by the 112th Congress in regards to reauthorization of federal aviation administration (FAA) programs. The House has passed a bill which would authorize programs through FY2014, while the Senate's bill would only last until FY2011. The Senate's bill also proposes an increase in jet fuel tax for general aviation and a new jet fuel surcharge for fractionally owned air crafts. The report covers key issues that need to be addressed for reconciliation between the two bills.

  • federal aviation administration faa reauthorization an overview of legislative action in the 111th congress
    CRS Report for Congress, 2010
    Co-Authors: Bart Elias
    Abstract:

This report tracks the status of ongoing legislative action and debate related to federal aviation administration (FAA) reauthorization. It is organized into six major program areas: aviation system finance; airport financing; FAA management and organizational issues; system capacity and safety; environmental issues; and airline industry issues. In several cases, provisions that appear in various unrelated sections of proposed legislation have been rearranged in this report in an effort to group and discuss related items in an issue-driven or programmatic context. Since this report is primarily written as a means of communicating key legislative provisions under consideration in the ongoing FAA reauthorization process, it does not go into detail regarding the specific policy issues behind these legislative proposals.

  • federal aviation administration Reauthorization: An Overview of Selected Provisions in Proposed Legislation Considered by the 110th Congress
    2009
    Co-Authors: Bart Elias
    Abstract:

The report is intended to provide a brief summary and analysis of major legislative provisions in bills related to reauthorization of the federal aviation administration and related aviation programs that were considered during the 110th Congress.

  • evaluasi rigid pavement apron bandara kalimarau berau dengan metode federal aviation administration
Jurnal Ilmiah Teknik Sipil TRANSUKMA (Tanah Transportasi Struktur Manajemen Kontruksi), 2018
Co-Authors: Rahmat Rahmat, Mustakim Mustakim, Risfadiah Risfadiah
    Abstract:

Increase the retrofitting of structures apron is required in Kalimarau Berau Airport. In this case reconstruction of the structure apron from flexible pavement becomes rigid pavement (rigid pavement).I was planning a thick rigid pavement (Rigid Pavement) on the apron Kalimarau Airport using the FAA (federal aviation administration) metod without reinforcement for 5 and 10 years life time. Based on the results of the design calculations thick rigid pavement structure on the apron Kalimarau Berau airport using the federal aviation administration (FAA) conducted by the author of the voluminous data obtained rigid pavement (rigid pavement) for 10 years lifetime by 15 inches (38.10 cm) and 5 years lifetime by 15 inches (38.10 cm).Thickness’s design of pavement for 5 years and 10 yearsoccurred because the number of Annual Departure Equivalent at the age of 5 years and 10 years on the best plan of Airbus A300 respectively amounted to less than 1200 (a minimal amount of annual departure of the curve design pavement thickness for dual wheel gear). Therefore, when flexural strength value's inserted, the value of k and the value MTOW on pavement thickness design curves for 5 years and 10 years would produce the same pavement thickness is 15 inches (38.10 cm). • radiation exposure during air travel guidance provided by the federal aviation administration for air carrier crews
    Health Physics, 2000
Co-Authors: Wallace Friedberg, Kyle Copeland, F E Duke, Keran Obrien, E B Darden
    Abstract:

Air carrier crews are occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation, principally from galactic cosmic radiation. To promote radiation safety in aviation the federal aviation administration has: issued educational material on the nature of the radiation received during air travel; recommended radiation exposure limits for pregnant and nonpregnant aircrew members; developed computer programs that estimate for a given flight profile the amount of galactic radiation received on a current flight or on one flown at any time back to January 1958; published tables that enable aircrew members to estimate possible health risks associated with their occupational exposure to radiation; and conducted research on effects of radiation during pregnancy. References for this material are given in the article. In addition, graphic and tabular data in the article show how galactic radiation levels and the composition of the galactic radiation has changed between 1958 and 1999. Also given are estimates of effective doses received by air travelers on a wide variety of air carrier flights.
